Study Travel for Schools and Institutions

Study travel for schools and institutions in China starts with a written agreement, not a week you can reserve. Article 38 of the 2017 order says a Chinese school may take a short-term group only after it signs with the foreign sending unit. DragonTrail does not sign that paper and does not publish a group price.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

Request current fees and any funding terms directly from the provider; no amount is confirmed here. 团组 rules are in 教育部、外交部、公安部令第42号. Primary and secondary groups also need an accompanying guardian. Chapters 2 through 5 of the order govern higher-education schools. Confirm the applicable provincial requirements, school fees, and supervision arrangements with the receiving school. There is no DragonTrail rate card.

ClockShort-term in the order is no more than 180 days. The agreement with the Chinese school comes before travel. F invitations should name dates and places.
MoneyNo DragonTrail group rate. A higher-education school that charges fees publishes them in RMB. Insurance is required for students the school enrolls. Request current fees and any funding terms directly from the provider; no amount is confirmed here.
Who decidesThe Chinese school and your sending unit sign Article 38. A consulate stamps visas. DragonTrail does not sign either paper.
PapersThe agreement, guardian papers for minors at primary and secondary schools, passports, and an invitation if the category is a study tour.
OutcomeA plan with aims, a budget of categories, and visits marked unconfirmed. Not a reserved week and not a grade.
Easy to mix upTreating a sample week as a booking, or using one adult-to-child ratio as if the ministry had printed it.
Worked exampleA high school that wants a ten-day visit asks a Chinese school for an agreement and sends a guardian. A university faculty group asks whether the students will be enrolled or only visiting.
What we do not doDragonTrail does not reserve classrooms, price a group, or confirm that a museum will open its doors.

The Agreement Comes Before the Flight

Article 38 allows a school to accept international students for short-term study as a 团组, but only after an agreement with the foreign sending unit. A quote, a sample week, or a teacher’s enthusiasm is not that agreement. Short-term, in Article 45, means no more than 180 days. DragonTrail cannot sign for the Chinese school or for your district. If neither side has signed, the group is still a plan.

Primary and Secondary Groups Need a Guardian

When the receiving school is a primary or secondary school, the sending unit must complete the exit paperwork its own country requires for minors, and it must send a person who acts as guardian while the students study. Separately, a student under 18 whose parents do not live in China needs a formally entrusted guardian. Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution. Any ratio you use is your institution’s rule or a provincial rule we did not read, not a number from this page.

Higher Education Is a Different Chapter

Article 2 says chapters 2 through 5 apply to higher-education schools. Preschool, primary, and secondary schools follow provincial rules for recruitment, teaching, and on-campus management. Article 5 gives provincial education departments that policy job. A university group and a grade-school group do not share one compliance paragraph. Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution.

Study Tours Use an Invitation, Not a Guess

The Sweden embassy note dated 2026/10/12 describes F as exchanges, visits, study tours, and other activities. The invitation should name each traveler’s identity, the purpose, the dates, the places, the link to the inviter, the source of funds, and the inviter’s name, phone, address, stamp, and signature. A group of twenty needs those fields for the people the consulate asks about. We cannot stamp the letter. A commercial delegation may be looking at M instead. We will not choose.

Money Is a List of Categories

Article 14 says a higher-education school publishes its fee items, standards, and refund rules in RMB. That is the school’s list, not ours. A group budget still has flights, insurance, housing, meals, local transport, tickets, and the cost of the adults who travel with the students. Article 40 requires insurance for international students the school enrolls. No premium was printed. DragonTrail has no group rate, no free leader place, and no “from” price.

Visits Stay Unconfirmed Until a Host Says Yes

A campus, a museum, a company, or a sister school is unconfirmed until that host says yes in writing. This hub will not mark a visit as requested or confirmed, because no request was sent. Article 29 limits religious activity on campus. Article 26 says schools generally do not organize military training or political activities for international students. Build the learning aims first. Then ask a named school whether it can host. The sample weeks elsewhere in this cluster are examples only.

Group Routes

Each route below is one way a school or an institution plans study travel in China. None of them is a reserved itinerary, and none of them is a price DragonTrail publishes.

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). A fee, an hour cap, and an application window belong to the office named in the link. If a date has passed, or a line on a visa note looks incomplete, the page says so. None of this is a placement or a group visit DragonTrail can reserve, and none of it is legal advice.

FAQ

Can I book a school group on this page?

No. Article 38 requires an agreement between the Chinese school and your sending unit before the school accepts a short-term group. DragonTrail does not sign that agreement and has no group rate.

What is the chaperone ratio?

No ratio was printed in the cited order. Primary and secondary groups must send a person who acts as guardian. Your own institution may set a stricter number. Confirm current requirements and availability directly with the relevant institution.

Do primary schools follow the same chapters as universities?

No. Chapters 2 through 5 govern higher-education schools. Preschool, primary, and secondary schools follow provincial rules for recruitment, teaching, and on-campus management. Confirm the applicable provincial requirements, school fees, and supervision arrangements with the receiving school.

Which visa do study tours use?

The Sweden note describes F for exchanges, visits, and study tours, and it lists what an invitation should contain. A consulate decides. A commercial trip may be M. We do not choose.

Is there a group price?

No DragonTrail price exists. If a Chinese higher-education school charges fees, Article 14 says it publishes the items in RMB. Flights, insurance, housing, and meals are separate categories until a host includes them in writing.

Are the sample weeks real bookings?

No. Any sample week in this cluster is an example for planning. No school, museum, or company has been asked, and none is confirmed.

What insurance is required?

Article 40 says international students must insure as the state and the school require, or they are not admitted. No premium was printed. Ask the receiving school which policy it accepts.

What should a leader collect first?

Aims, ages, the sending unit’s authority to sign, and whether a Chinese school has agreed. Passports and an invitation come after that, not before.

Compare study routes, or tell us the ages in the group, the length of the trip, and whether a school in China has already agreed to host. Neither button reserves a visit, sets a price, or signs an approval.
