University Study in China

University study in China is a place a named university agrees to give you — a degree, a preparatory year, or a semester of courses — and it is not a seat DragonTrail can reserve. Start with the credential you need, the language of the classroom, and the fee on that university’s own page.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

DragonTrail has no university intake, partner list, or tuition. Figures on this cluster are what Peking University (北京大学), Fudan University (复旦大学), Tsinghua University (清华大学), Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (西交利物浦大学), NYU Shanghai, and two vocational colleges published, read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Most 2026-entry windows on those pages have already closed.

At a Glance

What you are choosingA credential and an issuer. Degree categories in the 2017 joint order are 专科, 本科, 硕士, and 博士. Non-degree categories are 预科, advanced study, and research scholars.
Who decidesThe university admits. A Chinese embassy can recommend a scholarship candidate. DragonTrail does neither, and a pre-admission note is not a final place.
Bachelor shape at 北京大学The 2026 brochure for applicants without a written exam says four to six years, taught in Chinese. The application fee is 800 RMB. Tuition is “further notice after approval.”
Preparatory year北京大学’s 预科 (Yuke) notice prices 2026 entry at 27,000 RMB a semester for one or two years. Those application windows closed before this page was checked.
A semester without a degreeThe general visiting page, stamped 2024-04-01, lists 18,000 RMB a semester for Chinese courses and 24,000 RMB for credit courses. Confirm it is still the invoice.
English-taught graduate bandFudan’s 2026 English-taught postgraduate PDF prints 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year as a reference and says the exact fee is set at enrollment.
Not one national price西交利物浦大学 lists 99,000 RMB a year for international undergraduates. A 2025 Shaanxi vocational brochure lists 8,000 RMB a year. Those are different products.
Visa shapeStudy longer than 180 days is usually an X1 visa, then a residence permit. Shorter study is often an X2. The school’s admission notice is the school’s, not ours.

What University Study Is, and What It Is Not

People search for university study in China and then mix four contracts: a bachelor’s degree taught in Chinese, a master’s taught in English, a semester of visiting courses, and a three-year vocational diploma. Order No. 42, issued in 2017 by the education, foreign affairs, and public security ministries, separates them. Degree study is 专科生, 本科生, 硕士研究生, or 博士研究生. Non-degree study is 预科生, 进修生, or a research scholar. A summer school can sit in the non-degree column even when the host is famous.

DragonTrail does not admit students and does not publish a catalog of places. Find a Suitable Program shows how routes are organized. It does not enroll you at 北京大学 or anywhere else. If a page on this cluster names a yuan figure, the sentence also names the university that printed it and the date we read it. Where that university left tuition blank, the blank stays blank.

Credential, Language, and Who Issues the Paper

The paper you want should be named before the city. A graduation certificate (毕业证书) and a degree certificate (学位证书) are not the same document. Peking University’s 2026 undergraduate brochure says students who complete the training plan and pass the thesis defense receive a graduation certificate, and that a bachelor’s degree follows only if the degree rules are met. The medium of instruction on that brochure is Chinese. An English-taught master’s, such as the School of New Media program priced at 80,000 RMB a year, is a different classroom and a different invoice.

Recognition outside China is not something this site can stamp. Order No. 42 says the university registers degree students’ status and graduation certificates. Your home university, a professional body, or a credential agency in your country decides what that paper means for a further degree or a job. Ask them with the host’s curriculum, not with a league label. Universities and Schools explains 985, 211, 双一流, and the C9 alliance as glossary terms, not as a DragonTrail ranking.

Fees We Could Read, and Whose They Are

On 29 October 2026 the spread was wide, which is the point. Peking University’s undergraduate brochure still said tuition would be announced after approval, while the application fee was a firm 800 RMB and non-refundable. The same university’s New Media master’s page listed 80,000 RMB a year, 160,000 RMB over two years, and 30 credits. Its graduate fee PDF left many humanities and science rows as “notification will be provided upon approval,” and printed program totals beside them, including 160,000 RMB for an English-taught LLM and 188,000 RMB for the Global MBA.

Other issuers are not interchangeable with those rows. Fudan’s English-taught postgraduate PDF gives a yearly band of 50,000 to 269,900 RMB and warns that the exact amount is confirmed at enrollment. Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University’s international page lists 99,000 RMB a year. NYU Shanghai’s 2026–27 table prices 12 to 18 credits at 231,437 RMB a term for students on the Shanghai portal. A 2025 brochure from 陕西工业职业技术学院 lists 8,000 RMB a year for a three-year 专科. None of these numbers is a DragonTrail rate, and none of them is “the” cost of university study in China.

Deadlines Already Closed, and Why We Will Not Invent the Next Ones

Checked on 29 October 2026, the 2026-entry calendars we opened had already finished. Peking University’s written-exam-exempt bachelor rounds ran from 19 December 2025 to 28 February 2026, and from 12 June 2026 to 10 July 2026, Beijing time. Its 预科 notice closed the spring 2026 window on 26 December 2025 and the fall 2026 window on 8 May 2026. Fudan’s English-taught postgraduate PDF used 13 October to 12 December 2025, then 1 to 31 March 2026. Those are brochure facts. They are not a calendar you can still submit to.

Scholarship clocks were local, not national. The embassy in Trinidad and Tobago said the 2026/2027 Chinese Government Scholarship closed on 15 February 2026. Belgium’s page said 20 February 2026. The Bahamas page said 14 February 2026. Campus China (campuschina.org) is the portal those notices point to. The next cycle, if there is one, will be a new notice from the dispatching authority and from the university. DragonTrail will not sketch a September intake that those pages do not currently offer.

How To Read the Routes Under This Hub

Use one route at a time. Foundation is the preparatory contract. Associate and vocational pages are 专科 and higher-vocational diplomas, not a quiet path into a bachelor’s. Bachelor, master, and doctoral pages stay with degree length, language, and the fee line the issuer actually printed. Non-degree, exchange, visiting, semester, and academic-year pages separate a nomination by your home university from a place you buy directly. Summer and winter pages refuse to treat a July course as a January course.

English-taught and Chinese-taught pages keep the language tests with the program that published them. Joint-degree pages warn that two universities can mean two invoices. Credits and transcripts explain why a 学分 on a Chinese transcript is not automatically a US semester hour. Choosing a university starts from program fit and treats rankings as a publisher’s method, not as our list. How To Apply is the document order. Cost of Studying is the wider money page. Where To Study comes after the program is real.

Visa, Insurance, and What DragonTrail Will Not Do

Peking University tells admitted degree students to apply for an X1 visa with the admission letter and the JW201 or JW202 form, then to convert it to a residence permit within 30 days of entry. Its visiting page uses X1 and JW202 when study exceeds six months, and X2 when it does not. The Beijing municipal English guide describes the same split: X2 for no more than 180 days with an admission notice, X1 for longer study with a JW form. A consular officer decides. We do not issue visas, and we do not promise that a short course qualifies for a student visa.

The same undergraduate brochure requires the comprehensive insurance plan for international students before registration, and it says students without the required cover are not registered. Scholarship rules are separate from admission. Peking University’s Type A page says a certificate downloaded after a first check is not the final admission result, and that the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover tuition on its English-taught programs. Bring the university’s current PDF to Request Guidance. We can help you read it. We cannot submit it for you, and we cannot turn a closed 2026 window into an open one.

FAQ

Can DragonTrail enroll me in a Chinese university?

No. Universities admit students. This cluster explains how to read their rules and their published fees. Find a Suitable Program organizes study routes. Request Guidance is a conversation. Neither button is an application to 北京大学, 复旦大学, or any other campus.

Is there one tuition fee for university study in China?

No. On the day we checked, Peking University had left undergraduate tuition for a later notice, priced one English-taught master’s at 80,000 RMB a year, and left many graduate rows blank pending approval. Fudan printed a wide yearly band. A vocational brochure printed 8,000 RMB a year. Use the issuer’s page for the program you mean.

Are the 2026 application dates still open?

The 2026-entry windows we read had closed by 29 October 2026. That includes Peking University’s bachelor rounds, its 预科 windows, and Fudan’s English-taught postgraduate windows. Embassy scholarship deadlines in the notices we opened were in February 2026 and differed by country. Wait for the next official notice rather than reusing those dates.

Does a scholarship letter mean I am admitted?

Not by itself. Peking University’s Type A instructions say the certificate you download after an early check is not the final admission result, and that scholarship candidates still pass the university’s review. Embassy pages describe a recommendation to the China Scholarship Council. The university still decides whether you may enroll.

Do I need Chinese if the program is taught in English?

You need whatever that program prints, which may be an English test rather than HSK, and you may still have Chinese courses. Degree rules also expect Chinese and a China-survey course for international degree students. Read the program page and the graduation language rule together. English-taught is not the same sentence as “no Chinese.”

Will my home university accept the credits?

Only your home university can say so. Chinese universities record 学分 on their own scale. A visiting semester, a summer session, and a full degree each produce different papers. Ask for the host’s transcript key before you pay, and get written approval from the office that grants your degree at home.

Which visa should I plan for?

Plan from the length on the admission notice. Study of no more than 180 days is the X2 pattern in the Beijing municipal guide. Longer study is the X1 pattern and, on Peking University’s degree page, a residence permit within 30 days of arrival. Nationality and document rules still belong to the consulate.

What should I send if I want help comparing universities?

Send the credential you need, the teaching language you can use, the city you can live in, and links to the official pages you are reading. Say whether a home university must approve credit. We will not invent a partner list or a DragonTrail tuition. We can help you see which sentences on those pages are still blank.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and the city. Neither button admits you to a university.
