China Camps for International Students

A China camp for an international student is a short supervised stay — language, a school visit, or an activity week — and it is not a week DragonTrail can reserve. Decide the age band, whether the child sleeps at home, and who is responsible after dark before you compare a city.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

DragonTrail has no camp dates, fees, housing, or staff of its own. Every yuan or dollar figure on this cluster is another organization’s published price, read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Several of those pages disagree with themselves about the year or the kind of bed.

What a Camp Is, and What It Is Not

Parents usually start with a season and a postcard, then discover the product is a timetable plus a bed. A half-day language morning in 东城区, a teenager sleeping in a hostel with a supervisor, and a nine-week university language pledge in 上海 are three different contracts. They can share the word camp on a brochure and still have nothing else in common: different ages, different nights, different adults, and different invoices.

DragonTrail does not run any of those contracts. This cluster explains how to read a camp the way a careful parent would: who teaches, who stays after dark, what the fee claims to include, and which sentence on the organizer’s own site is too old or too vague to pay against. Find a Suitable Program shows how longer study routes are organized. It does not hold a bunk for July.

Age, Language, and Where the Child Sleeps

Age is the filter that should come before the city. A ten-year-old who goes home at lunch is not ready for a residential week just because an older sibling could do it. Hutong School’s 2026 kids and teens page does not print a numeric age floor in the text we fetched. Its Beijing page, which still talks about Camp 2025, lists half-day and day lines beside homestay and a July full camp, again without a clear age on those date lines. Ask the school which ages it will actually accept for the format you want, in writing, before you discuss flights.

Overnight is the second filter. Day and half-day models end with a handover to a parent, a driver, or a school bus you have named. Residential and homestay models mean some other adult has the child at 22:00. The 2026 Hutong page says an adult is present day and night and that the team sends a weekly message with pictures. It does not publish a staff-to-child ratio, a night-check routine, or the qualifications of that adult. Those gaps are normal on marketing pages and they are not details to skip.

Prices We Could Read, and Whose They Are

On 29 October 2026 the Hutong Beijing page said one week starts from 4,250 RMB per person. The same screen still said “Apply for Chinese Camp in 2025” and described cultural activities as Chinese Camp 2025. The newer kids and teens page, titled for 2026, described classes, meals, airport pickup, and hotels, and it did not print that 4,250 RMB figure at all. Use the page that matches the product, then ask which number the invoice will follow. Neither number is a DragonTrail rate.

University summers publish clearer totals and they are the wrong age. NYU Shanghai lists program fees for Summer 2026 at USD 8,500, including tuition of USD 5,440, an administration fee of USD 600, books of USD 250, and a double-occupancy housing estimate of USD 2,210, for Friday 29 May through Saturday 1 August 2026. The same page also lists nine-week dorm rates of ¥9,615, ¥12,965, and ¥15,035. Princeton in Beijing’s Summer 2026 cost sheet bills USD 7,650 tuition and USD 1,350 fees, USD 9,000 direct, inside an estimated cost of attendance of USD 12,345. Eligibility language on the NYU page is students enrolled at an accredited university. Do not send a middle-school child toward those invoices.

A School Year Is Not a Camp Week

Some families want a child inside a real school, not a language-school activity week. That is an admissions product. Western Academy of Beijing, 北京京西学校, publishes 2026–2027 annual tuition: 148,000 RMB for early years half day at ages 3–4, 249,000 RMB for early years full day, 296,000 RMB for the next band, then 317,400, 336,800, 370,800, and 380,500 RMB as the grades rise, plus a 2,100 RMB application fee and a 30,000 RMB non-refundable portion of annual tuition. Those are year prices. They explain why a two-week “immersion” that claims to sit inside such a school needs the school’s own permission, not a camp brochure.

北京理工大学 appears on a 2026 international summer fee sheet we opened as a PDF hosted by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya’s Barcelona school of informatics, not on a page we fetched from bit.edu.cn itself. That sheet prices Beijing programs at CNY 4,500 for 8–29 July 2026, age 18 to 45, taught in English, cancelled if fewer than 20 students enroll, meals and airport transfers excluded. The apply address printed on the sheet is http://apply.isc.bit.edu.cn. Useful for an adult student. Irrelevant as a child’s robotics week.

The Beijing municipal English guide to X1 and X2 visas, read the same day, says applicants under 18 need a parent’s signature and a birth certificate, original and copy. Short study of no more than 180 days is the X2 path and needs an admission notice from a mainland institution. Study longer than 180 days is the X1 path and also needs a JW201 or JW202 form, then a residence permit within 30 days of arrival. The guide points families to the China Online Visa Application at cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn and suggests applying about a month ahead. A consular officer decides the visa. DragonTrail does not.

If the child does not sleep in a hotel, the Exit and Entry Administration Law, in the Foreign Ministry PDF we opened, requires the visitor or the host to register with the local police within 24 hours. Hotels file that registration themselves. A homestay is not a hotel desk. Put the registration duty in the questions you send the organizer, next to allergies, medicines, and the phone that answers after 21:00.

What to Settle Before You Pay

Write the week back to the organizer in plain lines: start and end dates with the year, age the child will be on day one, minutes of taught class, language of instruction, where the child sleeps, who the night adult is, what meals are included, what happens if the group is too small, and the refund rule. Hutong’s Beijing date lines — 16 June, 30 June, 14 July, 28 July — do not print a year beside them. BIT’s sheet says a paid fee is non-refundable and a program under 20 students is cancelled. Those are two different risk pictures. Ask which one you are buying.

When the answers are on paper, use Find a Suitable Program if you also need a longer study route, or Request Guidance with the child’s age, city, and dates. Guidance is a conversation. It does not enroll anyone, and it does not turn another school’s 4,250 RMB line into our price.

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Camp prices, start dates, and visa rules change. Use the current page from the organization that sets the rule. Where a page still shows an older year, or two housing descriptions that do not match, the note in the text says so.

FAQ

Can I book a China camp on this page?

No. DragonTrail has not published a camp seat, price, or start date of its own. The weeks described here are published by named schools and universities. Request Guidance is a conversation about age, dates, and city. It does not enroll a child.

Are the fees on this page what I would pay DragonTrail?

No. 4,250 RMB is Hutong School’s published “from” price for one week on a Beijing page that still says Camp 2025. USD 8,500 is NYU Shanghai’s Summer 2026 program fee for university students. CNY 4,500 is the BIT sheet’s Beijing summer fee for ages 18 to 45. They are examples, dated 29 October 2026, and they are not our rate card.

Does a camp include a student visa?

Not automatically. The Beijing guide says an X2 needs an admission notice and covers short study of no more than 180 days, and that a parent signs if the applicant is under 18. DragonTrail does not issue invitations or tell you which visa to tick. The consulate and the school named on the papers do that.

Is a university summer school a children’s camp?

No. NYU Shanghai’s 2026 immersion asks for students enrolled in an accredited university and requires dorm housing from 29 May to 1 August. Princeton in Beijing’s cost sheet is a college summer budget. BIT’s sheet sets the age band at 18 to 45. A child needs a program that states a child age band.

What if two pages from the same school disagree?

Ask which page the invoice follows. Hutong’s kids page is titled for 2026 and describes hotels, while another bullet on that page says a youth hostel, and the Beijing page still says 2025 and a single from-price. Pay against a written quote that names the year, the bed, and the format.

Will someone watch my child overnight?

Only if the format you buy says so, and only to the standard that organizer actually writes down. Hutong’s 2026 page says an adult is present day and night. It does not publish a ratio. A day camp should not be described as overnight care. Read the supervision page before you treat a weekly photo as a safety plan.

Can my child sit in a local school for two weeks?

Only with that school’s permission. A language-school excursion is not a place in a classroom. Western Academy of Beijing’s published figures are annual tuition for 2026–27, from 148,000 RMB, which shows how different a real school place is from a camp week.

What should I send if I want help comparing options?

The child’s age on the start date, the city you can use, whether nights must be at home, any food or health limits, and the latest date you can still change flights. We can help you turn that into questions. We cannot confirm a bunk that a school has not offered you.

Compare study routes, or tell us the child’s age, dates, and city. Neither button enrolls a child in a camp.
