Alumni and Association Study Travel
Alumni and association study travel in China is usually a group of former students or members, not a class a Chinese university has enrolled. DragonTrail does not confirm a campus week and does not publish an association rate.
Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).
No alumni office and no campus confirmed a reunion. If travelers are not international students, Order 42’s student chapters are the wrong rule to lean on. F and M on the Sweden note are descriptions a consulate can compare. Request current fees and any funding terms directly from the provider; no amount is confirmed here.

| Who this is for | Alumni boards and associations planning a learning trip. Members are often not enrolled students. |
|---|---|
| Clock | A short reunion is not automatically X2. X2 needs an admission notice. No date is held. |
| Money | No DragonTrail association rate and no hotel block. Student RMB fee rules apply only if a school actually enrolls someone. |
| Who decides | A consulate compares the purpose with F, M, or Z. A school signs Article 38 only if it is receiving students. Not DragonTrail. |
| Papers | A list of who is enrolled, if anyone, passports, and an invitation or trade papers that match the week. |
| Outcome | A plan that separates visitors from any true students. Not a campus booking and not a degree. |
| Easy to mix up | Using an alumni card as an admission notice, or applying work-study rules to graduates on a visit. |
| Worked example | A board writes who will only visit and who, if anyone, will enroll, then asks the campus before announcing a room. |
| What we do not do | DragonTrail does not host an alumni week, price it, or choose the visa description. |
Alumni Are Often Not Current Students
Article 2 defines an international student as a foreign citizen receiving education at a school in China. A reunion of graduates who are not enrolling does not meet that definition. Do not plan their week on Article 9’s labels, Article 14’s fee list, or Article 40’s insurance sentence as if those articles had admitted them. If a university does enroll some of them for a short course, say so for those people only. The others remain visitors.
Order 42’s Student Chapters May Not Apply
Chapters 2 through 5 govern higher-education schools’ recruitment and training of international students. An association trip that never seeks admission is outside that machinery. Article 38’s 团组 rule matters when a school will accept the travelers as students. It is not a way to book a banquet hall. The 2021 work-study measures are further away: they need a student already at a degree-teaching university. Alumni on a holiday week are not that student.
A Reunion Can Be F, M, or Something Else
The Sweden note describes F for exchanges, visits, and study tours, and M for commercial and trade. A lecture series can look like F. A fundraising gala or a sponsored forum can look like M. Z is work if someone is employed to run the week. J1 and J2 are journalists. We will not pick among those for an alumni board. Invitation fields for F still include identity, purpose, dates, places, relationship, funds, and the inviter’s stamp and signature, if F is even the category.
Association Staff Are Not a 团组 by Default
Staff who organize the trip are not a student group because they printed badges. If they will work in China, read the Z description and its work-permit notification. The “000 days” string on the fetched reminder is not a length of stay. If they only accompany a visit, say that, and still let the consulate decide. DragonTrail does not employ association staff and does not insure the event.
No Campus Has Agreed to Host an Alumni Week
No gate, lecture room, or archive was requested. A sentence that names a city in a sample week is a setting, not a host. Article 29 limits religious gatherings on campus. Article 26 generally keeps military training and political activities off the school’s program for international students, which matters only if the school is treating the group as students. Ask before you put a rally or a service in the plan.
Membership Is Not an Admission Notice
An alumni card is not JW201 or JW202, and it is not the admission notice X1 or X2 asks for on the Sweden note. X1 is study over 180 days. X2 is study of no more than 180 days. A five-day reunion should not be described as either unless a school has actually admitted the person. DragonTrail has no reunion price, no hotel block, and no reserved lecture. Unconfirmed is the status.

FAQ
Are alumni international students under the 2017 order?
Only if a school is educating them as its international students. A reunion that does not enroll anyone is outside Article 2’s definition. Do not borrow Article 9 labels for the whole group.
Does Article 38 book a banquet?
No. It lets a school accept a short-term student group after an agreement. A dinner that is not study is not that sentence.
Which visa fits a reunion?
The Sweden note’s F description covers exchanges, visits, and study tours. M covers commercial and trade. Z covers work. The embassy decides. We do not.
Is an alumni card an admission notice?
No. X1 and X2 on the Sweden note ask for school admission papers, split at 180 days. A membership card is not JW201, JW202, or that notice.
Do work-study rules apply to alumni?
No. The 2021 measures cover students at a degree-teaching university, including a one-year line for off-campus work. A visiting graduate is outside that page.
Is there an association rate?
No DragonTrail rate, no hotel block, and no reserved lecture. A campus that enrolls someone publishes its own RMB items. This page does not.
Can staff work on the ground?
If they work, read the Z category and its work-permit notification. “000 days” on the fetched reminder is not a stay length. We do not employ your staff.
Has a campus agreed?
No. No room was requested. Announce a campus only after that university writes yes.
