English-Taught University Programs

An English-taught (英语授课) university program in China is a degree or a short course a university agrees to teach in English, with the fee and the English test that program prints. It is not a promise that the whole campus runs in English, and it is not a DragonTrail catalog. Several 2026 windows below have already closed.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

Peking University’s undergraduate brochure for 2026 is Chinese-taught, so it is not an example of an English bachelor’s. The English examples we could price are graduate or summer programs. Fudan’s PDF says the yearly band is a reference and the exact fee comes at enrollment. A Chinese Government Scholarship may not cover the full English-taught invoice.

Not the whole universityEnglish-taught means the program that says so. Peking University’s 2026 bachelor’s path is explicitly Chinese-medium. Do not enroll in it expecting English lectures.
One master’s priceSchool of New Media, 2026: two years, 30 credits, English, 80,000 RMB a year, 160,000 RMB total. A bachelor’s is required. That row is not every master’s.
Other PKU English totalsThe 2026 PDF lists an English LLM at 160,000 RMB, a Global MBA at 188,000 RMB, and an English MIR at 150,000 RMB. Joint rows are only the Peking University half.
Fudan’s bandEnglish-taught postgraduates, 2026 PDF: 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year, full-time, reference only. Application fee 800 RMB. Both application phases have closed.
English tests at FudanTOEFL iBT at least 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo 110, or PTE Academic 61, unless the program asks for more or for GRE or GMAT. Some applicants can skip the test.
Scholarship gapPeking University’s Type A page says the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover English-taught tuition. Budget the remainder.
Summer EnglishFudan’s July 2026 session was English-taught and cost 22,000 RMB for four weeks, or less if nominated. It was not a degree, and it has ended.
Chinese still appearsDegree rules expect Chinese and a China-survey course for international degree students. English-taught is not a waiver of every Chinese requirement at graduation.

English-Taught Is a Label on a Program

English-taught university programs in China are a line in a brochure, not a property of a city. Peking University’s 2026 undergraduate route for international students says the medium of instruction is Chinese and the length is four to six years. Someone who arrives for that bachelor’s expecting English lectures has misread the contract. The English-taught examples at the same university sit in the graduate table: New Media, an LLM, a Global MBA, an MIR, and joint degrees whose printed tuition is only the Peking University share. Chinese-Taught University Programs is the other column. Read both before you assume a famous name teaches your subject in English.

Fudan’s public admission note says the university has developed English-instructed programs and points to the international office. The 2026 PDF we read is specifically the English-taught postgraduate list. It is not a menu of every bachelor’s major. A summer session in English, priced for four weeks, is a third product. DragonTrail does not merge them into one “English track” with one price. Find a Suitable Program organizes routes. It does not filter a live seat list by language.

Fees That Are a Number, and Fees That Are a Range

Use a number only when the row has one. The New Media page states 80,000 RMB a year for two years and 30 credits. The graduate PDF states 160,000 RMB for the English LLM, 188,000 RMB for the full-time Global MBA, and 150,000 RMB for the MIR, each over two years. It also states 95,000 RMB for the Peking University part of the LSE and Sciences Po dual master’s programs and tells you the partner’s tuition is in the partner’s prospectus. Generic humanities and science rows on the same PDF still say the fee will be notified after approval, even where the language cell says Chinese or English. A blank cell is not 80,000 RMB.

Fudan’s PDF prints 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year for full-time English-taught postgraduate study and then says the band is a reference and the exact amount is given at enrollment. Choosing the bottom of the band for a budget is a decision you made, not a quotation the university made. Part-time programs are sent to their own notices. The application fee was 800 RMB and non-refundable. Master Degree Programs keeps the row-by-row reading. Cost of Studying is where housing goes after tuition is a real invoice.

The English Test the PDF Actually Prints

Fudan’s 2026 English-taught postgraduate PDF sets a floor: TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo 110, or PTE Academic 61. It warns that some programs want a higher IELTS score, or GRE or GMAT. You do not need that evidence, on this PDF, if English is your first language or if you have completed or are completing a degree taught and assessed entirely in English. That waiver is narrow. A few English courses inside a degree taught in another language do not meet the sentence. A Chinese-taught program does not use this table at all.

Short English summers can say “strong English” without a score. Fudan’s 2026 summer write-up does that. A department can still ask for a score later. Bring the test you have, and do not assume HSK replaces it. HSK is the Chinese exam. How To Apply can order the file. It cannot sit IELTS. If your score is one band short of a program’s higher line, the lower line on the university PDF will not save you.

Scholarships Can Leave a Gap on English-Taught Fees

Peking University’s Type A instructions say the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover tuition for English-taught programs and that recipients must pay what remains. That sentence changes the meaning of “scholarship.” An 80,000 RMB New Media year, or a 188,000 RMB MBA, may still send you a bill after the award. Ask the international office, with the program name, what share the scholarship pays this year. The New Media page mentions Type B as a possible waiver of tuition, housing, stipend, and insurance, decided under the rules in force. Possible is not awarded.

Fudan’s first 2026 window, 13 October to 12 December 2025, was the one tied to the high-level graduate scholarship, the Silk Road program, and the Shanghai government scholarship. The second window, in March 2026, was not described the same way. Both have closed. Embassy deadlines for the national scholarship were in February 2026 and differed by country. A self-funded English-taught place is the default assumption until a scholarship letter names the amount. Do not subtract the whole fee in hope.

Chinese at the Edges of an English Program

Order No. 42 says Chinese and a course on China are required for international students in degree programs, and that political theory is required for philosophy and politics majors. Teaching in English does not repeal that article. Quality rules used for international students have also described a Chinese level at graduation even for programs taught in a foreign language, lower than the level expected when Chinese is the teaching language, and different for undergraduates and postgraduates. Ask the school which catalog-year rule applies to you. Daily life in the city is a separate pressure: a canteen, a clinic, and a landlord may not operate in English even when the seminar does.

A summer taught in English can include a Chinese class inside the fee, as Fudan’s summer does, without making you a Chinese-taught degree student. A visiting semester of Chinese courses at 18,000 RMB is the opposite product. Put the English-taught degree, the English summer, and the Chinese visiting semester in three columns. University Summer Schools holds the July column. Mixing them is how a four-week course is mistaken for a master’s.

Closed Windows, and the Next PDF

Checked on 29 October 2026, Fudan’s two postgraduate phases and the June summer deadline are past. Peking University’s 2026 graduate fee PDF remains the document that shows which English rows had numbers and which did not. It is not an open application. The next cycle will be a new PDF and a new window. Until it is posted, do not pay an agent who claims the 2026 band is still a seat. What To Study should come before the language filter: an English program in the wrong subject is still the wrong program.

Send the program URL, the fee row, and your English score or the reason you think you are exempt. We can help you see whether the cell is a number, a band, or a blank, and whether a scholarship sentence covers it. We cannot choose 50,000 inside Fudan’s range, submit the 800 RMB, or promise that lectures will stay in English if the department changes the catalog. The Chinese version of a bilingual page, where the university says so, is the one that wins a dispute.

FAQ

Are Peking University bachelor’s degrees taught in English?

Not on the 2026 undergraduate brochure we read. It says Chinese is the medium of instruction for international undergraduates. English-taught programs we could price at that university were graduate programs, each with its own total. Do not use a master’s fee as if it were the bachelor’s.

Is 80,000 RMB the English-taught fee?

It is the yearly fee for the 2026 New Media master’s, 160,000 RMB in total. The same university’s PDF lists other English totals, including 188,000 RMB for the Global MBA, and leaves some rows blank pending approval. Quote the row you were offered.

Can I budget Fudan at 50,000 RMB a year?

Only as the bottom of a reference band that runs to 269,900 RMB. The PDF says the exact tuition is confirmed at enrollment. The application windows for 2026 have closed. A later PDF can move the band. DragonTrail will not pick a point inside it.

What English score should I have?

Fudan’s English-taught postgraduate PDF prints TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo 110, or PTE Academic 61, with higher bars and GRE or GMAT for some programs. A first language of English, or a whole degree taught in English, can replace the test on that PDF. Other universities print other floors.

Does a full scholarship cover English-taught tuition?

Peking University says the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover those English-taught fees and that students pay the rest. Confirm the gap on your program. A scholarship label without a number is not a zero invoice.

Do I still need Chinese?

Often, for part of the degree. The ministry’s international-student rule requires Chinese and a China-survey course in degree programs. Graduation standards can add a Chinese level even when the major is taught in English. Ask the school. Street life may require more Chinese than the seminar does.

Is a summer course an English-taught degree?

No. Fudan’s 2026 summer was four weeks in English with a credit cap and a 22,000 RMB price, and it has ended. It does not confer a master’s. A degree has an admission letter that names the degree and a fee row of its own.

What should I send to compare English-taught options?

Send the program page, the fee sentence, and your test score. Say whether a scholarship must cover the entire tuition. We will not invent a missing number or submit the application. If the page is Chinese-taught, we will say so.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and the city. Neither button admits you to a university.
