Master Degree Programs

A master’s degree program in China is postgraduate study after a bachelor’s, taught in the language that program names, and priced by that school. Two 2026 documents from Peking University (北京大学) and one from Fudan (复旦大学) show how wide the numbers are. DragonTrail does not publish a master’s fee of its own.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

Generic rows on Peking University’s 2026 graduate fee PDF say tuition “will be provided upon approval.” The same PDF prints totals for named programs. Fudan’s English-taught postgraduate PDF gives 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year as a reference and says the exact amount is set at enrollment. The 2026 application windows we read are closed. Do not treat the band as an invoice.

At a Glance

CredentialA master’s degree from the university that admits you. A bachelor’s is the usual entry. Fudan’s PDF says a bachelor’s or above for master’s applicants.
Length on the PKU PDFHumanities master’s programs are listed as two to three years. Science master’s programs are listed as three years. Named programs can be two years full-time.
One English exampleThe School of New Media’s 2026 English-taught master’s is two years, 30 credits, 80,000 RMB a year, 160,000 RMB in total. That is one program, not the university’s only fee.
Other PKU totalsThe PDF also lists an English LLM at 160,000 RMB, a Global MBA at 188,000 RMB, an English MIR at 150,000 RMB, and a Chinese teaching-Chinese master’s at 78,000 RMB. Part-time MBAs are much higher.
Blank rowsHumanities and science master’s rows that are not tied to a named professional program say notification upon approval. The total depends on the length of study.
Fudan’s 2026 bandEnglish-taught postgraduates: 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year for full-time study, reference only. Application fee 800 RMB. English tests are printed separately from HSK.
Windows already closedFudan: 13 October to 12 December 2025, then 1 to 31 March 2026. The first window was the one tied to named scholarships. Both dates are past.
Scholarship gapPeking University’s Type A page says the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover tuition on its English-taught programs. Budget the difference before you call it a full scholarship.
DragonTrailNo master’s catalog and no supervisor matching. The department still assesses the file.

A Master’s Fee Belongs to One Program

Master degree programs in China are where a single university can look expensive and inexpensive at the same time. Peking University’s graduate fee PDF for 2026 international students leaves ordinary humanities and science master’s rows as a notice still to come, and then prints a long table of professional and English-taught totals. The School of New Media’s own page, for an English-taught master’s, is more specific: two years for applicants who already hold a bachelor’s, 30 credits, 80,000 RMB a year, 160,000 RMB altogether. Use that page for that program. Do not paste 80,000 RMB onto a science master’s whose cell still says the fee is awaiting approval.

Fudan’s 2026 English-taught postgraduate PDF makes the same point with a band instead of a blank. Full-time tuition is given as 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year, and the PDF says the figure is only a reference and that the exact amount is confirmed at enrollment. Part-time programs are pointed to their own notices. An applicant who quotes “about 50,000” has chosen the bottom of a range the university told them not to treat as the bill. DragonTrail will not pick a number inside that range for you.

Named Totals on the Peking University PDF

Reading the PDF as a price list means reading the row, not the university’s reputation. A master’s in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, at the School of Chinese as a Second Language, is two years, full-time, taught in Chinese, total 78,000 RMB. An English-taught civil and commercial LLM at the law school is two years, full-time, total 160,000 RMB. Guanghua’s Master of Finance, auditing master’s, and professional accounting master’s are Chinese-taught two-year totals of 128,000 or 158,000 RMB. The Global MBA is English, two years, full-time, 188,000 RMB. The part-time MBA rows on the same table are 428,000 and 468,000 RMB, and the EMBA row is 828,000 RMB. Those are different products that happen to share a campus.

Joint rows are only the Peking University half. The PDF says the Cornell dual-degree tuition it prints is Guanghua’s part, and that Cornell’s part is in Cornell’s prospectus. The PKU–LSE and PKU–Sciences Po international-relations rows list 95,000 RMB and say the same thing about the partner’s invoice. Joint and Dual Degree Pathways is where those second bills belong. If your row says “notification will be provided upon approval,” you do not yet have a number, even if the row next to it is full.

Entry Rules and English Tests

Fudan’s PDF requires non-Chinese citizenship, a valid ordinary passport, good health, no criminal record, and a bachelor’s or above for master’s study. English-taught applicants are given a table: TOEFL iBT at least 90, IELTS Academic at least 6.5, Duolingo at least 110, PTE Academic at least 61. Some programs ask for a higher IELTS score or for GRE or GMAT. You can skip an English test on that PDF if English is your first language or if your degree was taught and assessed entirely in English. That waiver is Fudan’s sentence for its English-taught list. It is not a waiver of Chinese for a Chinese-taught master’s.

Peking University’s New Media page is an English-taught curriculum in theory, methods, and issues in new media, aimed at applicants who already hold a bachelor’s. It points scholarship candidates to the Chinese Government Scholarship Type B for a possible tuition waiver, housing, stipend, and insurance, decided under government and university rules. It does not say every admitted student receives that waiver. A Chinese-taught master’s, including the 78,000 RMB teaching-Chinese program, can ask for HSK instead. English-Taught University Programs and Chinese-Taught University Programs keep those tests from being averaged.

Application Windows That Have Closed

Fudan’s PDF sets two phases for 2026 entry. The first ran from 13 October 2025 to 12 December 2025 and was the window for the Chinese Government Scholarship high-level graduate program, the Silk Road program, and the Shanghai Government Scholarship. The second ran from 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2026. The application fee was 800 RMB, online and non-refundable, and an unpaid form was invalid. Assessment was by the school or department after the documents were in. On 29 October 2026 neither phase was still a way to start in 2026.

Peking University’s Type A instructions for 2026 told scholarship applicants to apply to the university first, download a certificate after an early eligibility check, and then take that certificate to the scholarship authority. The postgraduate certificate could be downloaded, on that page, from 1 November 2025 to 23 February 2026. The page says the certificate is not the final admission result. Embassy deadlines for the same scholarship year were not identical: 15 February 2026 in the Trinidad and Tobago notice, 20 February in Belgium’s, 14 February in the Bahamas notice. There is no single national master’s deadline to reuse.

When a Scholarship Does Not Cover the English-Taught Fee

A line that matters more than the badge is Peking University’s statement, on the Type A page, that the Chinese Government Scholarship does not fully cover tuition for its English-taught programs, and that scholarship recipients must pay the remainder. An 80,000 RMB New Media year, or a 188,000 RMB Global MBA, can therefore leave a bill even after a scholarship decision. Ask the international office, with the program code, how much of that program the scholarship actually touches this year. Do not assume “full scholarship” means every English-taught invoice goes to zero.

Self-funded study needs the opposite reading: the PDF cell or the program page is the fee, and the scholarship is a separate application you might not win. Budget housing as well. Peking University’s undergraduate brochure says non-scholarship students arrange their own rooms, but that sentence is on the bachelor’s page. For a master’s, use the graduate admission note and the dormitory office, not a guess from the bachelor’s text. Cost of Studying is the wider split between tuition and life. What To Study comes before you pick a brand-name school for a subject it may not teach in your language.

How a Master’s File Actually Moves

The pattern on these pages is an online form, a fee, documents in Chinese or English, and a department assessment. Fudan asks you to choose the program, upload the file, pay 800 RMB, and wait for the school to review. Peking University’s New Media scholarships are evaluated under the rules in force, not under a promise on a marketing card. CSC postgraduate files, on the Bahamas notice, also ask for a study plan of at least 800 words, two recommendations, and a pre-admission document from the university. That notice is one embassy’s scholarship checklist. A self-funded department can ask for a different plan.

DragonTrail does not choose your supervisor, translate your transcript, or pay the 800 RMB. We can help you see whether the fee cell is a number, a band, or a blank, and whether the scholarship you hope for covers an English-taught total. Find a Suitable Program is not a list of open master’s seats. When the next cycle’s PDF replaces the one dated for 2026, read the new window before you write the study plan. A plan written for a closed March deadline does not enroll you.

FAQ

Is 80,000 RMB the master’s tuition at Peking University?

It is the yearly fee on the 2026 English-taught New Media page, 160,000 RMB over two years. The graduate PDF leaves other humanities and science rows for a later notice and prints different totals for law, MBA, and finance programs. Quote the row you were admitted to.

Can I use Fudan’s 50,000 RMB figure as the price?

No. The PDF prints 50,000 to 269,900 RMB a year as a reference for full-time English-taught postgraduates and says the exact fee is told to you at enrollment. The bottom of the band is not an offer. Part-time programs have their own notices.

Did the 2026 master’s deadlines stay open?

The windows we read had closed by 29 October 2026. Fudan’s two phases ended on 12 December 2025 and 31 March 2026. Peking University’s Type A postgraduate certificate period on the page we read ended in February 2026. Embassy scholarship dates differed and were also in February 2026.

Does a Chinese Government Scholarship cover an English-taught master’s?

Peking University says it does not fully cover tuition on those English-taught programs, and that recipients pay what remains. Confirm the gap on your program before you accept the scholarship label. A Type B mention on the New Media page is still subject to the rules in force.

What English score does Fudan print?

For the English-taught postgraduate list: TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo 110, or PTE Academic 61, with some programs higher and some asking for GRE or GMAT. A first language of English, or a degree taught entirely in English, can replace the test on that PDF. Chinese-taught programs are a different rule.

How long is a master’s in China?

On Peking University’s 2026 PDF, humanities master’s study is two to three years and science master’s study is three years, while several named professional programs are two. Your offer letter’s length is the one that sets the total when the fee depends on length. Do not assume two years for every subject.

Will DragonTrail match me with a supervisor?

No. Departments assess files. A scholarship checklist may ask for a study plan and a pre-admission document from the university. We can help you read those instructions. We do not write to professors on your behalf or guarantee a reply.

What should I send if I want the fee rows compared?

Send the program name, the university PDF, and whether you need Chinese-taught or English-taught study. Say if a scholarship must cover the full invoice. We will not turn a blank cell into a number, and we will not submit the 800 RMB application for you.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and the city. Neither button admits you to a university.
