Mutianyu (Huairou), Badaling (Yanqing), Juyongguan (Changping), Huanghuacheng (Huairou), Simatai (Miyun) and Gubeikou (Miyun) are inside Beijing municipality. Jinshanling is across the border in Luanping County, Hebei.

From the visitor's perspective, the well-known Beijing-area sections are still day trips because they sit within 2-3 hours' drive.

Why is this confusion so common?
Because 'Beijing Great Wall' is the common search term, and several famous sections genuinely are inside Beijing municipality. But Beijing municipality is administratively large - it includes mountains and farmland 80-100 km out - so 'in Beijing' here doesn't mean 'inside the ring road'. And Jinshanling sits just over the line in Hebei, while Gubeikou and Simatai remain inside Beijing's Miyun District.

Assuming 'Beijing' means downtown

Jinshanling is a standard Beijing day trip even though it is in Hebei; Simatai and Gubeikou are inside Beijing municipality.
Treating Tianjin's Huangyaguan as a Beijing section
It's a Tianjin-side wall and only practical to visit from Tianjin, not as a Beijing day trip.
