Three ways to get there
Three modes. (1) Subway Line 5 to Tiantan Dongmen (East Gate, 2-min walk) is the easiest international-visitor option. Line 8 also stops at Ciqikou near the East Gate. (2) Taxi or Didi from central Beijing: 20-30 min off-peak, 40-60 min in rush hour; ~30-50 RMB. (3) Bus 6, 36, or 106 from central Beijing stops near the East Gate; 30-45 min depending on traffic. Private driver pickup is the standard for tour visits.

Subway: Line 5 Tiantan Dongmen
Line 5 (purple) Tiantan Dongmen station has the closest subway exit to the East Gate - 2-minute walk straight east from the station Exit A. End-to-end from central Beijing ~30 min. Line 8 Ciqikou (Stop B) is the secondary option, similar walk to East Gate. Most international visitors arriving by subway use Line 5 Tiantan Dongmen.

Taxi / Didi
Tell the driver 'Tiantan' (the Mandarin name) or show the East Gate address. Off-peak drive is 20-30 min from central Beijing; rush hour 40-60 min. Cost 30-50 RMB. Drop-off at East Gate plaza; the gate is a 1-min walk from the drop-off. Avoid Sat-Sun midday by 30 min for traffic.

Bus options
Three bus routes commonly used. (1) Bus 6 from central Beijing - stops near East Gate. (2) Bus 36 north-south through southeast Beijing. (3) Bus 106 trolleybus from Beijing Zoo / Dongzhimen area. All cost ~2 RMB. Buses are crowded on weekends but reliable. Foreign tourists rarely take buses; subway is usually the right choice.

When to use a private driver
Three scenarios. (1) Part of a guided tour day. (2) Coming from outside Beijing centre (hotels in Wangjing, CBD, airports). (3) As part of FC + ToH or ToH + SP combo days - the driver handles the inter-site transfer. Private driver pickup: 200+ RMB one-way, but included in our private ToH tour day.

Common transport mistakes
Getting off at the wrong subway stop
Line 5 has two stations near the park (Tiantan Dongmen for East Gate, Ciqikou for north-east). Tiantan Dongmen is closer to East Gate.
Taking a taxi at Saturday midday
Beijing weekend traffic adds 20-30 min. Take subway instead.
Going to 'Tiantan Park' by mistake to a different temple
The full name is Tiantan / Temple of Heaven. Confirm with driver.
Bus without a transit card
Buses don't always take cash; carry a transit card or use a payment app.
