Parent and Child Camps
A parent and child camp means you and the child are both in the program, or you are in the city on a plan the organizer will actually host. We did not find a current public sticker price for that product from the schools whose pages we could open.
Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).
DragonTrail has no parent-child week for sale. Hutong’s 2026 and Beijing pages describe camps for kids and teens, not a parent track with a fee. University summers such as NYU Shanghai’s USD 8,500 program are for enrolled university students, not a family package. Retrieved 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

| What we found | Youth camp pages and adult university summers. No combined parent-child fee on those URLs. |
| Do not invent | Adding a parent hotel to a child’s full camp is a trip you designed, not their family camp. |
| Hutong parents section | The 2026 page talks to parents who are sending a child, with weekly photos and Wi-Fi. It does not enroll the parent. |
| Visas | A parent on a tourist or business stay and a child on an X2 are different files. Under 18, a parent still signs the child’s form. |
| Class clash | A child’s 09:00–12:00 block can match an adult morning class. Afternoon trips may not want parents in the group. |
| Housing | A family room is not the youth hostel bullet. Ask if they will even sell you a room in the same building. |
| University barrier | NYU Shanghai requires university enrollment. A parent cannot “bring” a teenager into that dorm as a camp. |
| DragonTrail | We will not sketch a family fee and call it a camp. |
A Parent in the Room Changes the Product
Some families want to study beside a child. Some want the child in a group while the parent works from a hotel. Those are different products, and only the first is a parent-child camp. The second is a day camp plus your own hotel, which can be a good plan and should be priced as two purchases: their day fee, and your room. Hutong’s 2026 page is written to parents who stay behind. It offers a weekly picture message and Wi-Fi so the child can be contacted. It does not offer the parent a seat.
If an organizer says parents are welcome, ask where you are at 09:30. In the back of the child’s 普通话 class, in a separate adult class, or on a walking tour. A parent hovering in a children’s group changes the group. A serious school may refuse. That refusal is not an insult. It is a format limit. Get it before you book two air tickets on one assumption.
No Current Parent-Child Sticker Price
On 29 October 2026 we did not find a public price that said parent and child, family camp, or accompanying parent on the Hutong kids page, the Hutong Beijing page, the NYU Shanghai summer page, the Princeton in Beijing cost PDF, or the BIT fee sheet. The numbers those pages do print — 4,250 RMB from, USD 8,500, USD 9,000 direct, CNY 4,500 — belong to other products. Doubling them would invent a family fee. We will not.
Tailor-made is the sentence people hide behind. Hutong’s Beijing page says tailor-made camps can be arranged year round for a group. A family can ask for a quote. The quote is the price, dated, with two schedules. Until it arrives, this page cannot tell you what a week costs. A school-year invoice at 北京京西学校, from 148,000 RMB for 2026–27, is what a child place costs for a year at that school. It is not a family camp either.
Two Schedules, One City
If you do get a quote, lay the days on one grid. Hutong’s youth morning is 09:00–12:00. An adult intensive at a language school is often the same hours, which is convenient and also means you are not watching the child during class. The afternoon city trip may be closed to parents. Your own meetings cannot overlap the handover if the child is on a day plan. Residential full camp is designed for the parent to be absent. Joining it “nearby” means you are a tourist in the same 北京 week, not part of the duty of care.
Pick the city for the child’s format first. A parent’s conference in 上海 does not make a 北京 youth camp a family program. Transfers between the two cities are a separate day, and a child in residential care should not be pulled out for your meeting unless the camp agrees in writing. Split weeks break supervision.
Visas for the Adult and the Child
The Beijing student-visa guide is about the person who will study. A child applicant under 18 needs a parent’s signature and a birth certificate. That signature does not put the parent on the same visa. You may need a different category for your own stay, decided by the consulate, not by the camp and not by DragonTrail. An admission notice, if the school issues one, should name the student. A letter that casually adds a parent can be useless or harmful. Ask the school what they will sign and what they will not.
Short study of no more than 180 days is the X2 description in that guide. A parent remaining as a visitor does not convert a child’s file into a residence permit. If someone online tells you to share one visa, stop and read the consulate’s current instructions. COVA, the online form the Beijing guide links, is filled per person.
What Family Brochures Often Blur
“Family learning” sometimes means a parent buys an adult course and a child buys a camp in the same month, with no shared staff. “Parent participation” sometimes means a one-hour show on the last day. Neither is a parent-child camp. Ask how many hours you are expected to attend, whether those hours are taught, and whether refusing them changes the child’s place. A last-day performance is a courtesy. It is not a curriculum for you.
Photos of parents at the Great Wall are not a program. Hutong’s trip list — Great Wall, Summer Palace, French Concession, the Bund — is written as student trips. Ask if an extra adult on the bus requires an extra ticket and an extra lunch, and whether the group’s supervisor is then watching your child or hosting you. The ratio, already unpublished, gets worse when parents join without being counted.
How to Brief a School That Only Runs a Youth Camp
Say, in one email, that you will be in the city, whether you want a seat, and whether you need the child on a day plan so you can collect them. Ask them to refuse what they do not offer. A clear no is cheaper than a vague yes. If they propose tailor-made, ask for two fees, two age rules, and the housing address for each person. Compare that quote with simply buying the child’s day camp and booking your own hotel, which may be more honest.
DragonTrail can help you write that email. We cannot turn it into a family product we operate. Use Find a Suitable Program for adult or degree routes, and Request Guidance with both ages and the dates. There is no parent-child session on this page.
Build a Two-Person Grid Before You Buy Tickets
Put the parent and the child on one weekly grid before anyone says yes. The child’s 09:00–12:00 block, if you are looking at Hutong’s 2026 description, occupies the same hours an adult class would occupy. That can be convenient and it means you are not watching them. The afternoon trip may not have a seat for you. Your own meetings cannot overlap a day-camp handover. A residential full camp assumes you are absent. If your grid shows you need to reach the gate within an hour, say that to the school and ask whether a parent in a nearby hotel is allowed on the property at all. Their housing words — hotel, hostel — were written for students. A second adult can break the supervision they promised other families. Two air tickets are not a family program.
Visas go on the same grid as two separate files. The Beijing guide has the parent sign the child’s form when the applicant is under 18. That signature does not put you on the child’s visa. COVA is per person. An admission notice should name the student who will study, not the whole household. We did not find a public parent-child fee to drop into the grid. Do not double 4,250 RMB or USD 8,500 and call the result a family week. Those figures belong to other products. If the school replies that they have no parent track, believe them and price a day camp plus your own hotel, or do not go. DragonTrail will not draw a family session onto a calendar that does not have one.

FAQ
Can my child and I book a family camp with DragonTrail?
No. We do not sell a parent-child camp. We also did not find a current public fee for that format on the Hutong, NYU Shanghai, Princeton in Beijing, or BIT pages read on 29 October 2026.
Can I stay in the camp hotel while my child is in full camp?
Ask the organizer. Their 2026 housing sentences are about students. A parent in the same hostel may be unwelcome or may change the supervision they promised other families. If they say no, book your own hotel and keep the formats separate.
Will the school let me sit in class?
Only if they say so. A children’s speaking group is not a place for a parent to audit unless the teacher agrees. Adult classes, if they exist that week, are a second enrollment.
Does the child’s visa cover me?
No. The Beijing guide treats the applicant’s file as their own. Under 18, you sign. You do not become the visa holder. Use COVA per person and follow the consulate.
Can I add myself to NYU Shanghai’s summer?
Only if you are an eligible university student in your own right. The page requires enrollment in an accredited university and dorm housing. It is not a family add-on to a teenager’s camp, and the fee is USD 8,500 for that student program.
Is tailor-made the same as a published family camp?
No. Tailor-made means they might quote a custom week. Judge the quote. Do not treat Hutong’s 4,250 RMB from-price as a per-person family rate. The page does not say that.
What if I only want to be in the city for emergencies?
Then you want a day or residential plan with a clear call rule, not a parent-child camp. Read the supervision page. Your hotel is your plan. Tell the camp how fast you can reach the gate.
Who should I write to ask for a family quote?
The school, not DragonTrail. Hutong’s Beijing page prints beijing@thatsmandarin.com and (+86) 10 8448 9799. Ask them to confirm they do not offer the format if that is the truth. A no saves the trip design.
