Yes, but not as much as a long comparison table suggests. Century's newer large ships share a broadly similar premium proposition: modern interiors, private-balcony cabins, substantial public areas and the classic Chongqing–Yichang Three Gorges route.
Century Voyage is an easy first choice when it operates on your dates because it is one of the newer ships in the fleet. Century Oasis and Century Victory are also strong alternatives. If one of them has the better departure date, cabin or package price, we would normally take that rather than changing a China itinerary just to sail on Voyage.

Century Legend Is a Different Decision
Century Legend deserves separate treatment because it is not simply another newer Century sister ship. It carries fewer passengers than the large 650-guest Century vessels and is also used on some much longer Yangtze journeys connecting Chongqing and Shanghai.
If you are booking the standard Chongqing–Yichang Three Gorges cruise, compare it normally with the rest of the Century fleet. If you are considering a Chongqing–Shanghai cruise, route and trip length become more important than the ship ranking itself.
Yangzi Explorer: When Paying More Makes Sense
Yangzi Explorer is the clearest step up from the large mainstream premium ships. The current vessel carries 148 guests with 141 crew and has 74 balcony suites. Its entry-level Deluxe Suite is 31 m².
The difference is therefore not simply nicer decoration. There are far fewer passengers, substantially more space per guest and a much higher service ratio. For travelers who dislike large tour groups or want the cruise itself to be a major part of the China trip, that can justify the premium.
We would not automatically recommend Explorer to everyone. If you mostly want to see the Three Gorges and will spend much of the day ashore or on deck, Century or another premium ship may offer better value.
Victoria Cruises: Best for an International Service Style
Victoria Cruises has been serving international travelers on the Yangtze for decades and describes itself as the river's only American-managed cruise line. That makes it particularly easy to understand for travelers accustomed to Western cruise service and bilingual operations.
The ship we would check first is Victoria Isabella (美维凯璇), the new 2025 flagship. Victoria Sabrina is another modern large-ship choice, while Victoria Jenna is an older and smaller option with noticeably smaller entry cabins.

Do not choose Victoria only because the company is American-managed, and do not reject it because the vessels operate in China. Compare the actual itinerary, cabin and price just as you would with Century.
Vista Cruises: The New-Technology Choice
Vista Cruises is the newest major name in this comparison. Vista Harmony entered service in 2026, followed by sister ship Vista Aurora, giving the company two new-generation vessels on the Yichang–Chongqing route.
The attraction is primarily the hardware: hybrid propulsion, all-balcony accommodation and smart-room technology including Huawei HarmonyOS systems. For travelers who like new hotels, new trains and new ships, Vista is worth checking.
The trade-off is equally straightforward: the ships are very new, so the brand has a much shorter operating track record than Century or Victoria. We would choose Vista for its ship design and a good sailing date, not because newer automatically means better service.

Yangtze No.3: A Strong Large-Ship Alternative
Yangtze No.3 is one of the large modern ships on the river and is worth considering alongside Century and Victoria rather than treating it as a lower-tier fallback.
Its scale and facilities make it particularly relevant for families and travelers who enjoy a larger ship with more public space. It operates the classic Chongqing–Yichang route and also has selected longer Chongqing–Shanghai sailings.
We would put Yangtze No.3 on the shortlist when its sailing date, family arrangements or cabin package is better than the comparable Century or Victoria option.
The same operator also has Yangtze No.1 and Yangtze No.2, but Yangtze No.3 is the representative ship we would focus on for this comparison.

What Life on the Ship Is Actually Like
Whichever premium ship you choose, the basic rhythm is similar. Breakfast is followed by either a shore excursion or sailing time, with meals back on board and another excursion or gorge passage later in the day. Qutang, Wu and Xiling Gorges are the moments when many passengers head to the open decks.
Ships may also offer lectures, cultural demonstrations, evening performances, children's facilities, bars, lounges or spa services. The exact mix varies, but this is still a river journey rather than an ocean resort with entertainment running around the clock.
For most travelers, the landscape and shore program matter more than the evening entertainment schedule.
