For most foreign visitors, the practical way to book Tiananmen Square directly is the official WeChat mini-program 天安门广场预约参观. The official web reservation portal currently does not support registration using non-Chinese phone numbers.

The booking requires real-name visitor details. For foreign travelers, enter the passport information required by the current platform.
Copy the name and passport number carefully from the passport you will bring to Tiananmen Square.
Step 6 — Add Other Travelers
Current official foreign-visitor guidance says one reservation order can include up to seven people, currently structured as up to four adults plus qualifying young children under the system's rules.

Check the date, visit period, passport number, visitor names, and reservation status.
A screenshot is useful as a backup, but visitors should still bring the original passport used for the reservation.
Option 2: Have Someone Else Reserve for You
If you cannot use WeChat or cannot complete the foreign-passport booking yourself, the official Beijing guidance allows another person to make the reservation on your behalf. They will need the visitor information required by the reservation system, including the traveler's passport details.
That person can be a friend in China, hotel staff where the hotel offers this help, a tour operator, or DragonTrail booking assistance. Hotels are not obligated to make the reservation. DragonTrail does not own or control government reservation inventory; it can only submit the booking through the official system using the details you provide.
Option 3: Use a Qualifying Nearby-Attraction Reservation
A separate Tiananmen Square reservation is not always necessary for normal morning or afternoon access. Current official Beijing guidance says visitors with a valid same-day reservation for certain designated attractions in the Tiananmen area can use that reservation record to access the square during the applicable morning or afternoon period.
Current official examples include Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Great Hall of the People, and the National Museum of China. Older official guidance has also listed attractions including the Palace Museum, but the exact list is not permanently fixed.

A Tiananmen Square reservation does not automatically give you admission to the National Museum, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Forbidden City or Tiananmen Rostrum.
