Medicine packing
| Topic | What to confirm | Who owns it |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary prescriptions | Box, label, generic name | You and your prescriber |
| Controlled medicines | Current customs notice before you fly | Customs and your clinician |
| At the hospital | Whether they stock it | The facility pharmacy |
| DragonTrail | We do not carry or clear your medicines | Out of scope |
Carry medicines in original packs with the prescriber’s note. Controlled drugs need advice from customs and from the destination pharmacy before you fly. This is not a drug list.
How do we carry medicines without guessing at a banned list?
Keep medicines in the cabin bag, in the boxes they were dispensed in, with your name on the label. Bring a prescription or a clinician’s letter that uses the generic name, the dose, and why you take it. A pill organizer alone is a weak explanation at a customs desk.
China controls some substances that are ordinary prescriptions elsewhere, including certain pain medicines, sedatives, and stimulant medicines. The General Administration of Customs and the National Medical Products Administration publish the rules that matter. Read the current notice. Do not rely on a forum that names a number of days or a number of pills. We are not repeating a quantity here because a wrong number is worse than a pointer to the notice.
Do not mail medicines to the hotel. Do not ask a companion to carry a controlled medicine unless the rule allows that person to hold it. Ask the receiving hospital whether their pharmacy stocks your brand. Bring enough for delays, and a plan with your home clinician if the brand is unavailable. We do not recommend substitutes.
Liquid medicines and injectables draw extra questions. Pack them as the airline and customs notices require, with the letter in the same bag. Last reviewed 28 October 2026. A pharmacist or the consulate’s published note outranks this page.
What to write down
- Original boxes and labels
- Generic names on a clinician letter
- The current customs notice for controlled substances
- Cabin bag, not the checked suitcase
- A question to the hospital pharmacy about brand availability
- No mailing of medicines ahead

Questions people ask
- No. Check customs and, if the medicine is controlled, the notice or the embassy guidance for your passport.
- Read the current notice. We do not print a number that may already be wrong.
- Do not. Importing medicines by post is a customs question and often a poor idea.
- Ask your clinician and the hospital pharmacy. We do not name a substitute.
Talk to the medical desk
The medical desk coordinates logistics after a facility has its own plan. It does not diagnose, quote a treatment, or decide entry.
