How to prepare for a hospital visit in Beijing

Official Beijing appointment channels, campus addresses, identity documents, language notes, and hospital payment questions. No hospital ranking and no treatment advice.

  • Official channels
  • Name the campus
  • No hospital ranking
  • Ground logistics separate

Quick Answer

Use the hospital's own appointment channel, then arrange the car and the room around that schedule.

Beijing publishes international-patient contacts, campus addresses, and a city appointment platform. DragonTrail does not book the visit, rank hospitals, or read medical records. When a licensed provider has already confirmed the appointment, we can quote the transfer, the stay, and ordinary companion logistics.

What this guide is for

This page explains how a foreign patient finds a published Beijing hospital channel and prepares for the visit. It is about campuses, appointment routes, identity documents, language notes, payment questions, and the practical hour before you arrive. It is not a treatment catalogue and it is not a list of doctors.

You and your licensed provider own the care plan. DragonTrail does not diagnose, select treatment, read medical records, guarantee an appointment, provide nursing, or dispatch an ambulance. If you want a car, a room, or ordinary timing for a companion after a provider has confirmed the visit, that request belongs on the ground-service pages linked below.

Hospital names appear here because Beijing's municipal English site publishes them as international-patient contacts. A directory listing is not a partnership, a referral, or a statement about outcomes. Open the page you will actually use and follow that page if a phone number or an hour has changed since this review.

Start with the city's published directory

The Beijing municipal English site keeps a Medical Guide for Foreigners. It points to major institutions that publish full-process foreign-language services, and to a longer list of other institutions. That directory is the right first map. This guide does not replace it and does not sort the hospitals.

The same city guide says that for an emergency you dial 120. In Beijing the number it prints is (+8610) 120 for pre-hospital emergency medical services. It also notes that hospitals have emergency departments. DragonTrail does not provide that ride.

For an ordinary outpatient appointment, the city guide points to International Service Beijing (京通), the healthcare service on the Beijing 114 appointment platform. The published steps are to open the International Service Beijing mini program on WeChat or Alipay, switch to English, and book from there. Whether a given department still has a slot is decided by that system and the hospital, not by a travel company.

Name the campus before you travel

Several Beijing hospitals operate more than one campus. An appointment at the wrong gate can cost the morning even when the hospital name is right. The confirmation should name the campus, the building or clinic, and the entrance you are allowed to use. Copy that wording, including the Chinese address if the hospital prints one, into any transfer request.

Two published examples show why the campus line matters. They are examples of addresses and contacts, not a shortlist of where you should be treated. The municipal directory includes many other departments, among them Beijing United Family Hospital and Peking University Third Hospital. Open those listings yourself if they are the ones your provider named.

Peking Union Medical College Hospital's international-medical page repeats the Dongdan address (1 Shuaifuyuan) and the Xidan address (41 Damucang Hutong) and lists ims@pumch.cn. On that page, daytime regular clinics, evening clinics, and weekend-morning clinics are booked in the official PUMCH app. The only appointment phone it gives for special outpatient and dental clinics is 010-69156698. The only appointment phone it gives for obstetrics is 010-69156699. The same page prints a service hotline, 010-69156114, and does not describe that number as an appointment line.

The Beijing municipal English page for the same department still lists a Dongdan telephone of (+8610) 69156699, press 2 for English, and a Xidan special-clinic line of (+8610) 66016199. It also says Dongdan international emergency service is available around the clock at +86-10-69155288, and that the Xidan listing does not offer emergency service. Those two pages do not agree on 69156699. Follow the hospital page: that number is the obstetrics appointment line, not a general international-department line, and 69156698 is only for special outpatient and dental appointments. Confirm which campus your letter names before you call.

The municipal page for the International Department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital gives 2 Yinghuayuan East Street and appointment lines +86-10-84205071, +86-10-84206420, and +86-10-84206419. It marks emergency services as not available on that international-department listing. The hospital's own Chinese appointment page also describes an international department on the east side of the main campus and names other campuses. Match the campus on your confirmation. Do not assume the international-department door and a different campus share a waiting room.

Appointment channels the hospitals publish

A channel is a way to ask the hospital for a time. It is not a promise that the time exists. Specialty clinics, weekend sessions, and embassy lines can have their own rules. Read the page for the department you were told to use.

China-Japan FriendshipMunicipal page: WeChat mini program, official account, iOS app, or the three appointment numbers aboveDoes not mean every campus uses the international-department door

If your clinician at home has already referred you, keep that referral with the hospital conversation. DragonTrail cannot turn a referral into a Beijing appointment. When the hospital confirms a time, that confirmation is what a transfer quote should follow.

Identity documents

Bring the passport you are traveling on. The municipal medical guide says that when a hospital offers commercial-insurance direct billing, the patient presents the insurance card and passport so the hospital can check identity. That instruction is about that payment path. It is not a complete list of every registration screen in every app.

Appointment apps and 114 will ask for the identity details their current form requires. Follow the form you see. A photograph of a passport on someone else's phone is a weak substitute for the document the counter asks to see. If a companion is registering for you, ask the hospital in advance whether that is accepted for your department.

Do not send passport scans to DragonTrail in order to plan a car. The driver needs a meeting point and a time. The hospital needs the identity documents its own instructions name.

Language arrangements

Published language lists belong to the department that printed them. The municipal page for PUMCH international medical services lists English, Japanese, French, Korean, Russian, and German. The municipal page for the China-Japan Friendship international department lists English and Japanese. Those lists describe what that listing claims. They do not mean every clinician, every campus, or every Saturday clinic works in all of those languages.

Confirm the language of your specific appointment with the hospital when you book. A phone line that offers an English option is not the same thing as an interpreter sitting in the consultation. DragonTrail does not sell clinical interpretation on this guide or on the ground-service pages. An English-speaking coordinator for a car is not a medical interpreter.

Traditional Chinese Medicine access for foreigners in Beijing is a different subject, with its own clinics and its own cautions. Read TCM medical care for foreigners in Beijing for that narrower topic. This page does not repeat it and does not give herbal or acupuncture advice.

Paying the hospital

The municipal medical guide says international patients can pay the hospital with RMB cash, credit cards carrying Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, or JCB marks, a UnionPay debit card, or WeChat Pay or Alipay. It says a foreign-currency card is converted at that day's rate. It also says the charge standard is the same as for Chinese residents, and that patients may pay themselves or use commercial insurance.

Direct billing is narrower. The city guide says it is available when the patient's insurer already has a direct-billing arrangement with that medical institution. The patient then shows the insurance card and passport, and the hospital settles with the insurer. The guide names MSH China, Ping An, AIA, Cigna and CMB, and Allianz Partners as examples of insurers that have such arrangements with some institutions, and it tells you to check the signed list at the hospital you are visiting. An example on a city page is not proof that your policy will pay, or that DragonTrail can confirm coverage.

DragonTrail charges, if you later book ground services, are separate from the hospital bill. A transfer quote does not include the consultation or the procedure. We do not sell insurance and we do not interpret a policy.

The hour before you arrive

Leave with the appointment confirmation, the campus name, and the building or entrance. Beijing traffic and hospital security lines both move. A car that is on time at the wrong gate is still late. If you are coming from PEK or PKX, the terminal and the flight number matter as much as the hospital name.

Plan the seat honestly. A private car used for these rides has a normal passenger seat. If you cannot move into that seat, or you use a wheelchair beyond the car door, say so before anyone confirms a vehicle. Do not assume a sedan is a medical van. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are a specific confirmation, not a default.

Carry a second way to reach your hotel if the clinic runs long. Hospital delays are common. The people meeting you need the new time, not a clinical explanation of why the clinic is late. For payment inside the hospital, have the method the municipal guide describes, and the insurance card only if you already know that hospital bills your insurer directly.

  • Passport you are traveling on
  • Appointment confirmation with campus and building
  • Insurance card, only if that hospital direct-bills your insurer
  • Hotel address in Chinese, for the ride afterward
  • A charged phone with the hospital's published contact, not a screenshot from an old blog

Read the official instructions, or ask for logistics

If you still need a time, a department, or a document list, use the hospital and city pages. DragonTrail cannot complete those steps for you.

If the visit is already on a provider's schedule and you need the surrounding logistics, request a ground-service plan for transfers, accommodation, and companion timing, or request a transfer quote for one non-emergency ride. Tell them not to expect medical records.
