Shenyang is a large, spread-out provincial capital: an old palace city in the middle, industrial districts to the west and southeast, and good day trips in the hills beyond. Airport and railway stations
Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (SHE) is about 20 km south of the center. Most flights use Terminal 3; check the terminal on your ticket. Send the flight number and the full hotel address. A one-way transfer to one hotel inside the Third Ring Road is a direct ride, with no sightseeing on the way. Hotels in Shenbei, Sujiatun or Fushun need a quote from that address.
Shenyang has three main railway stations, and they are not interchangeable. Shenyang North handles most high-speed trains to Beijing, Changchun, Harbin, Dalian and Changbaishan. Shenyang Station is the older hub on the west side of Heping district. Shenyang South, in Hunnan, serves several high-speed routes as well. Copy the station name from your ticket. A station pickup is useful with several bags, children or a meeting that starts soon after you arrive.
The center, the development zones and the edges
The Third Ring Road is the boundary used for the airport, station and city-day prices. Inside it are Heping, Shenhe, Huanggu, Dadong and most of Tiexi, with Mukden Palace, Zhongjie, the Golden Corridor along Qingnian Street and Beiling Park. Tiexi’s development zone to the west and the Hunnan high-tech area to the southeast are where many plants and offices sit. Send the Chinese address or a map pin for every company.
Shenbei to the north, Sujiatun to the south and Fushun to the east are separate quotes. The metro links the airport and all three main stations, and Line 2 runs north–south through the center from Taoxian Airport to Shenyang North. A station is a rail stop, not the gate of every office or plant.
Winter
From November to March Shenyang is well below freezing, and snow can slow traffic for a day or two after a storm. Allow extra time for airport runs and the Benxi drive, and tell us about ski bags or bulky winter luggage before booking.

Leave early. The drive is usually around two hours each way, longer on public holidays or after snow. At the cave you take a boat along the underground river and walk the lit galleries, which is cool all year, so bring a layer even in summer. Buy cave and boat tickets for your date and keep your passport with you.
