Guangzhou to Foshan: The Short Answer
For a simple trip to central Nanhai or Chancheng, use the Guangfo Line when your destination is convenient from one of its stations.
If you are starting from Guangzhou South Railway Station, Foshan Metro Line 2 can be more useful for destinations such as Shiwan, Kuiqi Road or Nanzhuang, while Guangzhou Metro Line 7's west extension is useful for parts of Shunde including Chencun and Beijiao.
For Foshan West Railway Station, the Guangfo South Ring intercity railway provides another fast rail option from Panyu Station in the Guangzhou South transport hub.
For factories, industrial parks, several stops or addresses far from rail stations, taxi, DiDi or a private vehicle may be more practical.
- Guangzhou and Foshan — neighboring cities
- Central Nanhai / Chancheng — Guangfo Line
- Guangzhou South → Chancheng / Nanzhuang — Foshan Metro Line 2
- Guangzhou South → Chencun / Beijiao — Guangzhou Metro Line 7
- Guangzhou South / Panyu → Foshan West — Guangfo South Ring intercity
- Door-to-door — taxi, DiDi or private vehicle
Going to factories or several Foshan stops?
Where in Foshan Are You Going?
Foshan is a large city, not one destination.
Before comparing transport, identify the district, attraction, railway station, office, factory or exact address you need.
| Transport to check first | |
|---|---|
| Qiandeng Lake / Financial Hi-Tech Zone | Guangfo Line |
| Guicheng / Nanhai central area | Guangfo Line |
| Zumiao / central Chancheng | Guangfo Line |
| Kuiqi Road | Guangfo Line or Foshan Metro Line 2 |
| Shiwan | Foshan Metro Line 2 |
| Nanzhuang | Foshan Metro Line 2 |
| Chencun / Beijiao | Guangzhou Metro Line 7 west extension |
| Foshan West Railway Station | Guangfo South Ring intercity / other current rail connections |
| Factory / industrial park | Check exact address first |
The destination matters more than the city name.
A traveler going to Zumiao, a factory in Shunde and Foshan West Railway Station is solving three different transport problems.
Avoid using "Foshan city center" as if it describes all Foshan destinations.
Foshan includes five districts:
- Chancheng - Nanhai - Shunde - Sanshui - Gaoming
Most Guangzhou day-trip and business routes discussed in this article focus on: Chancheng Nanhai and Shunde because these are the areas most directly connected with Guangzhou's urban rail network.
Guangzhou to Foshan Transport Compared
There is no universal fastest option because Guangzhou and Foshan have multiple connected urban centers.
| Best for | Main advantage | Main trade-off | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guangfo Line | Nanhai / central Chancheng | Direct cross-city metro | Slow for destinations far from its corridor |
| Foshan Metro Line 2 | Guangzhou South → Chancheng / Nanzhuang corridor | Direct from Guangzhou South | Only useful when destination fits the line |
| Guangzhou Metro Line 7 | Guangzhou South → Chencun / Beijiao / Shunde | Direct cross-city metro | Not the route to central Chancheng |
| Guangfo South Ring intercity | Guangzhou South / Panyu → Foshan West / selected stations | Fast regional rail | Station-dependent + final connection |
| Taxi / DiDi | One direct address | Door-to-door | Traffic + separate return ride |
| Private driver | Business, factories, multi-stop trip | Same vehicle across the schedule | Higher cost than rail |
For one destination near rail, public transport is usually sufficient.
A dedicated vehicle becomes more useful when your Foshan trip involves several locations, luggage, factory visits, business appointments or a fixed return time.
Guangfo Line to Nanhai and Chancheng
The Guangfo Line is one of the main urban-rail links between Guangzhou and Foshan.
It connects the Guangzhou Metro network with Foshan stations including:
- Financial Hi-Tech Zone
- Qiandeng Lake
- Leigang
- Nangui Lu
- Guicheng
- Chao'an
- Pujun Beilu
- Zumiao
- Tongji Lu
- Jihua Park
- Kuiqi Lu
and continues farther through the Foshan urban area.
For many visitors going to central Nanhai or Chancheng, this is the simplest public-transport option.
The key GEO answer is:
Nanhai / Chancheng → check Guangfo Line first.
From Central Guangzhou
The correct interchange depends on where you start in Guangzhou.
One common route from central Guangzhou is to connect into the Guangfo Line through the Guangzhou Metro network.
For example:
Guangzhou Metro Line 1 → Xilang → Guangfo Line
can be useful for destinations along the central Guangfo corridor.
Other interchanges may be more convenient from other Guangzhou districts.
Use the current Guangzhou Metro route planner for the actual starting point.
Going to Zumiao or Central Chancheng?
For visitors heading to the Foshan Ancestral Temple / Zumiao area and central Chancheng, the Guangfo Line is usually the first public-transport option to check.
Zumiao Station is on the Guangfo Line.
This makes a simple independent Guangzhou → central Foshan visit straightforward without requiring a private vehicle.
Guangzhou South Railway Station to Foshan
Guangzhou South is one of the most useful starting points for rail travel into southern and central Foshan because several cross-city systems meet around the hub.
Current useful options include:
- Foshan Metro Line 2
- Guangzhou Metro Line 7 west extension
- Guangfo South Ring intercity railway
The correct one depends on the Foshan destination.
Foshan Metro Line 2
Foshan Metro Line 2 connects Guangzhou South Railway Station with Foshan through stations including:
- Chencun-area connections
- Flower World
- Dengzhou
- Wanhua
- Shiliang
- Kuiqi Lu
- Shiwan
- Zhangcha
- Smart New City
- Nanzhuang
The line is particularly useful when your destination lies along the southern / Chancheng corridor.
Official opening information gives the full Guangzhou South to Nanzhuang line at roughly 45 minutes and a full-line fare of 7 RMB.
These are line-level reference figures, not the journey time or fare to every Foshan destination.
Since January 2024, Foshan Metro Line 2 has an in-station transfer connection with Guangzhou Metro Lines 2, 7 and 22 at Guangzhou South Railway Station.
This means travelers no longer need the old above-ground out-of-station transfer described in early Line 2 guides.
Older guides that say to exit Guangzhou South station and walk outside to Foshan Line 2 are outdated.
Guangzhou to Shunde
Shunde is part of Foshan, but it should not be treated as the same transport destination as central Chancheng.
For destinations around:
- Chencun
- Beijiao
- Midea Avenue
Guangzhou Metro Line 7's west extension provides a direct cross-city metro connection from Guangzhou South Railway Station.
Official Guangzhou information identifies stations on the Foshan section including:
- Dazhou
- Chencunbei
- Chencun
- Jinlong
- Nanchong
- Midea
- Beijiao Park
- Meidi Dadao
At Beijiao Park, passengers can connect with the Foshan Metro network.
If someone says:
"Guangzhou to Foshan"
but the actual destination is a restaurant, factory or office in Shunde:
plan it as a Shunde route.
Do not first route through Zumiao or central Foshan.
This is an important logistics distinction.
Guangzhou to Foshan West Railway Station
For Foshan West Railway Station, one of the most useful current regional-rail options is the Guangfo South Ring intercity railway.
The line connects:
Panyu Station in the Guangzhou South Railway Station transport hub
with:
Foshan West Railway Station
via Foshan stations including:
- Chencun
- Beijiao West
- Shunde North
- Zhangcha
Official opening information gives approximately 20 minutes for a limited-stop Panyu → Foshan West train and a full-route fare reference of 21 RMB.
Actual travel time depends on the train's stopping pattern.
Schedules and service patterns vary.
Panyu Station Is Part of the Guangzhou South Transport Hub
The Guangfo South Ring intercity uses Panyu Station at the Guangzhou South transport hub.
This can be confusing for international travelers because:
Guangzhou South Railway Station
and:
Panyu intercity station
are part of the same wider transportation complex but belong to different rail systems.
Follow the current signs for:
Guangdong Intercity
rather than assuming every train departs from the national railway platforms.
Getting Around Foshan After Arrival
Foshan's local metro network has expanded significantly.
Foshan Metro Line 3 began full-line operation in June 2026 and now forms a major north-south route across Foshan, connecting areas in:
- Nanhai
- Chancheng
- Shunde
and Foshan West Railway Station.
For some trips, the practical journey is therefore:
Guangzhou → cross-city rail → Foshan local metro → final destination.
The Guangfo South Ring is part of the Guangdong Intercity network, not the conventional Guangzhou / Foshan metro.
It is not another metro line.
The network operates with a more rail-like regional service structure and different stopping patterns.
Travelers should check:
- departure station
- train stopping pattern
- current fare
- current timetable
before using it.
Taxi or DiDi from Guangzhou to Foshan
Taxi and DiDi can provide direct road transport between Guangzhou and Foshan.
Because the cities border each other, there is no useful single "Guangzhou to Foshan taxi distance."
For example:
Liwan → Nanhai
is a very different journey from:
Tianhe → Shunde
or:
Baiyun → Foshan West.
The exact:
- Guangzhou pickup address
- Foshan destination
- traffic
- time of day
determine the journey.
Taxi fares are metered.
DiDi provides an estimated fare through the app.
For one direct journey, taxi or DiDi may be completely sufficient.
If Foshan is a business or factory day, ask a different question:
Do you need a vehicle only to reach the first address?
or:
Do you need transportation between several Foshan stops and back to Guangzhou?
That distinction determines whether separate rides or an assigned vehicle makes more sense.
Private Driver from Guangzhou to Foshan
A private driver is mainly useful when the Guangzhou–Foshan journey is part of a larger schedule rather than one simple point-to-point trip.
Examples include:
- hotel pickup + several Foshan meetings
- Canton Fair + Foshan factory
- multiple supplier visits
- Foshan + Guangzhou business stops
- luggage or product samples
- fixed return to Guangzhou
- airport or railway drop-off after Foshan
The same vehicle can remain assigned during the confirmed service period and move between the planned addresses.
DragonTrail's private-driver service is vehicle + driver with English-language transport coordination.
A licensed guide, interpreter, sourcing agent or business assistant is separate unless specifically arranged.
See Guangzhou Private Driver Vehicles & Rates →
For:
Guangzhou hotel → Zumiao → Guangzhou hotel
a dedicated vehicle is optional.
Metro may be entirely sufficient.
For:
Guangzhou hotel → Foshan Factory A → Factory B → supplier meeting → Guangzhou hotel
the dedicated-driver model becomes substantially more useful.

Foshan Day Trip or Business Trip?
Simple sightseeing visit
For a visit focused around central Chancheng:
Guangfo Line can be practical.
A visitor can travel independently to the Zumiao area and use local metro, taxi or DiDi as needed.
Business / supplier visit
For:
office → factory → showroom → second supplier → Guangzhou return
a dedicated vehicle becomes more useful because the destinations may not align with rail stations.
Guangzhou to Foshan for Factory Visits
Foshan is a major manufacturing city, but a "Foshan factory" is not a precise destination.
Factories may be in:
- Nanhai
- Shunde
- Chancheng
- Sanshui
- Gaoming
and individual industrial districts can be far apart.
Before confirming transportation, obtain:
- complete factory address
- Chinese address
- map pin if available
- supplier phone number
- required arrival time
- expected meeting duration

Canton Fair to Foshan
A Canton Fair visit followed by a Foshan meeting or factory should be planned from the exact Foshan address.
Example:
Canton Fair → Foshan factory → Guangzhou hotel
may work well with a dedicated vehicle because the trip changes from exhibition transport into an intercity business route.
But Canton Fair traffic controls still apply around Pazhou.

Starting from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport?
If the journey starts at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport rather than a Guangzhou hotel, terminal and airport-rail planning become part of the route.
For airport transport basics, see:
Guangzhou Airport Transfer Guide →
For:
airport → Foshan factory / meeting → Guangzhou
or:
airport → Foshan → airport
a direct private vehicle may be useful when the timing and addresses make the schedule feasible.
Returning from Foshan to Guangzhou
For metro travel, use the same cross-city network that best matches your Foshan starting point.
Do not automatically return through central Chancheng if your final stop is in Shunde or near Foshan West.
For rail journeys:
check the current final train / metro service before an evening visit.
For taxi or DiDi:
book the return when required, but do not assume immediate vehicle availability at every industrial location.
For a private-driver booking:
the Guangzhou return should be included in the confirmed schedule.
If you have a fixed:
- flight
- railway departure
- dinner
- meeting
after Foshan, allow additional road or rail buffer.
Check the current Guangzhou Metro, Foshan Metro or Guangdong Intercity timetable on your travel date.
Paying for Guangzhou–Foshan Public Transport
Guangzhou and Foshan's rail networks are heavily integrated, but the exact payment method depends on the rail system used.
For metro travel, common local payment options include:
- transit tickets
- supported mobile payment
- supported transport cards
Guangzhou has also expanded support for eligible international bank cards within its metro payment system.
For Guangdong Intercity:
follow the current intercity ticketing / payment instructions.
International travelers should keep a backup payment method.
