Traditional Chinese Medicine Degrees

A traditional Chinese medicine degree, on the documents we opened, is a named award from 上海中医药大学, not a licence to practise and not a short course. The English acupuncture bachelor is five years at CNY 42,000 a year. Other titles on the school’s English list do not show a fee.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

The 2026 English bachelor window closed on 30 June 2026. The master’s window closed on 15 May 2026. The education page that lists 5+3 and other bachelor titles carries a 2017 footer and no prices. DragonTrail does not teach TCM and does not hold these seats. Home recognition of a TCM award is not decided here.

Only One Bachelor Fee Was in the PDF We Opened

上海中医药大学’s English education page is a wide map. It includes a five-year TCM bachelor, acupuncture and tuina, an English-featuring acupuncture and tuina route inside the 5+3 bachelor-master, clinical integrative medicine, and the 5+3 model that the school describes as combining residence training with academic training. It also describes classic-text teaching and a national teaching award shared, on that page, with Fudan and 上海交通大学. None of those sentences is a fee. The only undergraduate international fee PDF we opened is No. ENB2026900511, the five-year English-taught acupuncture programme leading to a Bachelor of Chinese Medicine, at CNY 42,000 a year.

That prospectus also sets an application fee of CNY 450, defined as the amount the university must actually receive, and insurance of CNY 800 a year. Textbooks are extra. Campus housing is in an attachment, the fee may fluctuate, and the arrangement notice was planned for the middle of July. Off-campus living needs approval. The independent class needs at least five students. A prospectus can be real and still not run if the class is too small. DragonTrail cannot recruit the other four students for you.

This Degree Is Not the Six-Year MBBS

Put the English TCM bachelor next to the English MBBS and the differences are the point. 上海交通大学医学院 asks for six years, RMB 75,000 a year, CSCA in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and English scores at IELTS 6.0 with no band under 5.0 or TOEFL 90 with no section under 15. 上海中医药大学’s acupuncture prospectus asks for five years, CNY 42,000 a year, CSCA mathematics only, in English, and TOEFL above 90 or IELTS above 6, or English-medium transcripts. The application fees are RMB 800 versus CNY 450. The age line on the TCM bachelor is under 60. The MBBS page does not use that age. Document No. 12 of 2020 appears on both, and each school prints its own parent-citizenship papers. Meeting one file does not clear the other.

A student who wants Western clinical medicine should not file the acupuncture PDF because the fee is lower. A student who wants to needle should not file the MBBS because the university is better known in a ranking we are not using. The award titles differ. The MBBS page says Clinical Medicine. The acupuncture page says Bachelor of Chinese Medicine. Those words are what a home authority will read later. We will not blur them for a smoother paragraph.

The Master’s Is a Second Contract

Prospectus ENM2026900311 is the master’s, not a continuation you receive automatically after the bachelor. It lasts three years, or up to five with suspension. Part-time study is only for students from schools that collaborate with the International Education College. Language is Chinese or English, with some Japanese. Chinese-taught applicants need HSK 5 at 180 or above. English and Japanese routes have no Chinese minimum. Non-native English speakers need TOEFL 90 or IELTS 6.5, a stricter IELTS line than the bachelor’s “above 6.” People without a TCM background need a medicine or related-science degree and must be able to research. One mentor, from the catalog, signs before you rely on the fee.

Fees: CNY 800 to apply, unless CSC Type A; CNY 34,000 a year full-time in Chinese; CNY 51,000 full-time in English or Japanese; CNY 51,000 part-time in Chinese; CNY 60,000 part-time in English or Japanese. Insurance CNY 800. Books and housing extra. Tuition is said to cover lectures, clinical internship, tutor instruction, and thesis review. The catalog that names mentors was not opened, so a famous specialty you hope to study may be missing. Full-time English classes need five students. The 2026 master’s deadline was 15 May 2026.

Classroom-to-Clinic Language Is Not Permission to Needle

The education page says the university has tried to bridge the classroom and the clinic, and it describes students watching and practising basic tuina in a news line on the English home page we did not use as a fee source. Practising a technique inside a supervised class, if a syllabus says so, is still not a licence to treat the public. The undergraduate prospectus awards the degree when credits, GPA, and examinations are passed. It does not say the graduate may open a clinic. Patients are not a teaching aid this page can promise. If a course later includes supervised practice, the school’s clinical rules and the teacher’s instruction are the limit. Unrestricted patient contact is not offered.

Short courses are a different page in this cluster. The degree PDF is five years. Do not call it a summer acupuncture class because the word acupuncture is in the title. Shaw Hospital’s elective is not a TCM degree either. It is a Western teaching-hospital observation route with its own coordinator. A TCM student who wants that visit must meet the hospital’s year-of-training rule and must not assume the visit teaches needling.

Papers, Nationality, and a Closed Window

The English bachelor file goes to apply.shutcm.edu.cn and is refused if it is incomplete or emailed. Passport validity of about ten months is advised. Parents’ Chinese citizenship triggers extra nationality and entry-exit papers back to 30 April 2022. CSCA mathematics can be filed as late as 30 June 2026 on that prospectus, which was also the application deadline, now past. A non-criminal-record paper and a financial statement are required. Scholarship applicants add a physical form. People with chronic disease are told to notify the school before registration and to ask first if they are unsure whether they may enter. That is an admissions health question. It is not medical advice from us, and you should not send us the diagnosis.

Bank details are printed on the prospectus, including a request to remit in RMB from abroad because the university may receive less after bank charges. The application fee is defined as the amount received, CNY 450. Sending a round number that arrives short can leave the fee unpaid. The admissions supervision hotline is 021-51322410 on weekday mornings and afternoons. Use it for integrity questions to the university, not as a DragonTrail number.

Pick the Award Title Before the City

Write the award you want in the school’s words: Bachelor of Chinese Medicine under the English acupuncture prospectus, or a master’s major that appears in the catalog, or a title that is only a name on the 2017-footer list. Then look for a fee that sits on that same document. If the fee is missing, the next step is the admissions office, not a guess from the MBBS. Recognition at home, especially for TCM, varies more than many readers expect. The recognition page explains why we will not promise eligibility to practise. Read it before you pay a deposit to anyone.

Find a Suitable Program explains study routes in general. Request Guidance is a form where you can say which award title you mean. Neither button files CNY 450 and neither button tells a regulator that your future degree will count.

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Tuition, language rules, and application windows change, and the 2026 windows on the school pages had already closed. A CUCAS card is CUCAS’s listing. The World Directory of Medical Schools did not return a directory page. The Campus China address named in a scholarship paragraph did not open. A hospital email printed by a university is that university’s contact. It is not a placement DragonTrail has confirmed, and it is not permission to examine a patient.

FAQ

Is every TCM degree at this school CNY 42,000 a year?

No. That fee is printed on the five-year English acupuncture prospectus ENB2026900511. The education page lists other TCM titles without prices. The master’s uses a different table, from CNY 34,000 to CNY 60,000 a year depending on language and full-time status.

Is the English acupuncture degree the same as an MBBS?

No. It is a Bachelor of Chinese Medicine, five years, with CSCA mathematics. The MBBS we opened is six-year clinical medicine in English at another university, RMB 75,000 a year, with CSCA mathematics, physics, and chemistry. The awards are not substitutes.

Do I need HSK for the English TCM bachelor?

The acupuncture prospectus we opened does not set an HSK minimum. It asks for English-medium transcripts or TOEFL above 90 or IELTS above 6 for non-native speakers, and CSCA mathematics in English. A Chinese-taught master’s is different and needs HSK 5 at 180 or above.

Can I start needling patients during the degree?

The pages do not give that permission. They describe a degree, credits, and a school that talks about clinics. Supervised teaching, if it exists in a syllabus, is the school’s rule. This site does not authorise treatment of patients.

Was the 2026 bachelor still open in October 2026?

No. Applications ran from 1 December 2025 to 30 June 2026, for a September 2026 intake with the day on the notice. That period had ended. A new PDF would be required before anyone should pay.

What does the minimum of five students mean?

The English bachelor runs as an independent class with at least five students. Full-time English or Japanese master’s classes have the same floor. If the class does not form, the prospectus does not promise you a private alternative.

Will a TCM degree let me practise at home?

Not on the strength of these documents. The award is academic. Professional recognition depends on the authority where you want to work, and it is often stricter for TCM than readers assume. We will not tell you that you are eligible.

Does DragonTrail teach or place TCM students?

No. We explain the public prospectuses. The portal is apply.shutcm.edu.cn. Our form does not submit the file, choose a mentor, or book a clinic.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and whether a home school must nominate you. Neither button admits you to a medical school, confirms a hospital, or licenses you to practice.
