MBBS and Clinical Medicine Degrees

An MBBS or clinical medicine degree in China is the undergraduate contract a named school prints, not a national product and not a right to practice. The English prospectus we opened at 上海交通大学医学院 is six years. A separate CUCAS card describes a Chinese-taught five-year route at a different fee.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

The school page for the 2026 English intake had already closed by 29 October 2026. CUCAS prints a 2027 clock for a card that uses the same yearly tuition. DragonTrail does not choose between those clocks and does not hold either seat. Home-country licensing is not decided on this page.

Which Clinical Medicine Page You Are Reading

Read the duration before the city. The prospectus at 上海交通大学医学院 offers Clinical Medicine taught in English for six years. It tells applicants to use the School of Medicine system at applyiso.shsmu.edu.cn, and the university’s general study site says medicine admissions are handled by that school, not by the main campus cycle. A second public list, the July 2026 provisional admission notice, also names a five-year clinical medicine cohort beside the six-year MBBS names. This page does not repeat those names. The existence of two lengths means you must match your offer letter to one of them.

CUCAS keeps a Chinese-taught Clinical Medicine card at RMB 29,000 a year for five years, with a printed start of 15 September 2027. Its language line asks for HSK 5 at 200 or above with writing at least 60, or HSK 6 at 180 or above with writing at least 60. That card is CUCAS’s listing. It is not the English prospectus, and DragonTrail did not open a matching Chinese-taught fee schedule on the school site for this review. If you need the Chinese-taught route, ask the school for that prospectus rather than borrowing the English fee or the English test list.

  • Six-year English product and five-year Chinese card are not substitutes.
  • An offer letter should name the length. A brochure sentence is not the letter.
  • The school says the prospectus is for reference only and may be revised if policy changes.

Who the 2026 Prospectus Says It Will Read

The English prospectus limits the file to non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport, a high school diploma or higher, and what it calls good physical and mental health. It then applies Ministry of Education Document No. 12 of 2020. Applicants born abroad to Chinese-citizen parents, or people who left Chinese citizenship, must show the passport and residence history the page spells out, including two years outside the mainland between 1 May 2022 and 30 April 2026, counted with entry and exit stamps. Nine months in a year may count as a year. This is the school’s reading of the rule. It is not immigration advice from DragonTrail.

Applicants under 18 on 1 September 2026 must add a guardian guarantee. The guardian must be an adult living in mainland China with the means to support the student. That date sits inside the 2026 prospectus. A later intake would print its own birthday cutoff. Parents’ nationality or household papers are also on the list, and a birth certificate. Documents not in Chinese or English need a notarized translation filed with the original.

Papers, CSCA, and the English Bar

The file is long, and every gap can invalidate it. The prospectus asks for a passport copy with at least six months of validity, a diploma or an expected-graduation letter, full transcripts, a high-school profile, a signed English personal statement, two recommendation letters with at least one from a subject teacher, the RMB 100,000 bank certificate, a Foreigner Physical Examination Form from a public hospital within six months, a no-criminal-record paper covering four years, and the RMB 800 fee receipt. Unpaid applications are invalid. The fee is not returned.

CSCA subjects on this prospectus are Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, due by the online deadline. That is a heavier science set than the English acupuncture prospectus at 上海中医药大学, which asks for Mathematics only. Do not reuse one school’s subject list at the other. English scores are listed above. Native speakers and students whose high school was taught in English may be excused only after the university reviews the proof. An excuse is not automatic, and it is not an HSK waiver for a Chinese-taught card.

Tuition, the Two-Week Prepay, and the Card’s Dollars

Section 9 of the English prospectus sets the application fee at RMB 800, tuition at RMB 75,000 per academic year, accommodation at RMB 40 per day per bed in a double room, and comprehensive medical insurance at RMB 800 per year. Textbooks, medical costs, transport, and meals are personal. Dormitory space is limited. You apply to the International Students Office inside the window the office sets, and if you miss a bed you arrange housing yourself. CUCAS prints a range of room prices and a living estimate of RMB 1,500 to 2,000 a month. Those are the card’s figures, not lines in section 9.

Pre-admission is not enrolment. The page says pre-admitted applicants must confirm and prepay tuition within two weeks of notice or the offer is withdrawn. Originals are checked at registration, and the school may revoke admission if they do not match. Admission notices were to start in July 2026. CUCAS’s “about $62,852” gloss on RMB 450,000 is the card’s arithmetic. The school page does not print a dollar total. Leave the dollars on the card.

An Admission Notice Is Not a Ward Key

The visa page at 上海交通大学医学院 says international students must enter on an X1 or X2 visa before registration. Another visa, or no visa, does not let you enrol. X1 holders are told they can stay 30 days from entry and must apply for a residence permit inside that period. A stay of more than six months needs a residence permit. The school applies for that permit only after enrolment. The same page says students without a scholarship are generally asked for a deposit certificate of 100,000 yuan under Shanghai entry-exit practice. That “generally” is the school’s wording.

Nothing on the MBBS prospectus describes which year, if any, is spent on a ward, or whether patients are addressed in Chinese. Do not invent a clinical-year language rule from a neighbouring university. The degree also does not appoint you to a hospital and does not tell your home council that you may practise. Recognition sits on its own page. A scholarship, including the Shanghai Government Scholarship described on the school’s scholarship guide, is awarded after admission and is not part of the tuition line.

How to Use This Degree Page

If you are choosing the English six-year route, keep the school URL, the RMB 75,000 line, the CSCA science trio, and the closed 2026 window in one note. If you are choosing the Chinese-taught card, keep HSK, five years, and RMB 29,000 in a different note, and mark it CUCAS until the school confirms it. If you are a student who already has a home medical place and wants a short hospital period, you are on the wrong page. That request belongs with clinical electives, and it is still only a request.

DragonTrail can help you read these constraints and prepare questions for the school. We cannot submit the RMB 800, we cannot sit CSCA for you, and we cannot promise that a closed 2026 prospectus will be reissued with the same fee. The next public prospectus is the one that counts.

Sources

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Tuition, language rules, and application windows change, and the 2026 windows on the school pages had already closed. A CUCAS card is CUCAS’s listing. The World Directory of Medical Schools did not return a directory page. The Campus China address named in a scholarship paragraph did not open. A hospital email printed by a university is that university’s contact. It is not a placement DragonTrail has confirmed, and it is not permission to examine a patient.

FAQ

Is the English MBBS the same degree as the five-year clinical card?

No. The school prospectus we opened is six years and English-taught at RMB 75,000 a year. The five-year Chinese-taught card on CUCAS is RMB 29,000 a year and asks for HSK scores. They are different listings. Confirm any Chinese-taught offer on a school page before you treat the card as the invoice.

Was the 2026 English intake still open on 29 October 2026?

No. The printed window ended on 30 April 2026, Beijing time. Early September 2026 was the start month on that prospectus, with the exact day left to the admission notice. A CUCAS card that says 15 September 2027 is a different clock and is not, by itself, a new school prospectus.

Does RMB 75,000 include housing and insurance?

No. Housing on the school page is RMB 40 per day per bed in a double room, and insurance is RMB 800 per year. Books, meals, local medical costs, and transport are listed as personal. The application fee of RMB 800 is also separate and is not refunded.

Can I skip CSCA if my English score is strong?

The prospectus does not say that. It requires a CSCA report in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry by the deadline, and it requires English evidence unless the university approves an exemption for native speakers or English-medium high school. One exemption does not cancel the other requirement.

Will this degree let me practise medicine at home?

The prospectus does not say that, and this page will not say it. Practice rights depend on the rules where you want to work. WCAME’s recognition until June 2030 is about China’s accreditation committee, not about your personal eligibility.

What happens if I miss the two-week tuition prepay?

The school page says the offer is withdrawn. Pre-admission results appear in the application system. That step is between you and 上海交通大学医学院. DragonTrail cannot extend it.

Why do the school and CUCAS both show RMB 75,000 but different years?

Because they are different publications. The school page describes the intake whose deadline was 30 April 2026. The CUCAS card we opened prints April 2027 and September 2027, and it adds CUCAS fees the school page does not print. Keep both, and do not average them.

Does DragonTrail submit the MBBS application?

No. The portal named on the prospectus is applyiso.shsmu.edu.cn. Our guidance form can help you sort documents and questions. It does not pay the RMB 800 and it does not produce an admission notice.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and whether a home school must nominate you. Neither button admits you to a medical school, confirms a hospital, or licenses you to practice.
