Postgraduate Medical Study

Postgraduate medical study in China, on the pages we opened, means a master’s file at 上海中医药大学 or the joint PhD described by 上海交通大学医学院 with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It is not a catalogue of every hospital laboratory, and it is not a promise that you will practise.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

Both 2026 application windows we opened had closed by 29 October 2026. The master’s prospectus points readers to campuschina.org for Chinese Government Scholarship rules. That host did not open. The joint PhD page is not a general master’s list. DragonTrail has no postgraduate seats.

At a Glance

Master’s lengthThree years at 上海中医药大学, with a maximum of five years including suspension. Full-time and part-time both exist. Part-time is only for students of schools that collaborate with the International Education College.
Master’s feeApplication CNY 800, not refunded. Full-time Chinese-taught CNY 34,000 a year. Part-time Chinese-taught CNY 51,000. Full-time English or Japanese CNY 51,000. Part-time English or Japanese CNY 60,000. Books, housing, and insurance are extra. Insurance is CNY 800 a year.
LanguageChinese-taught master’s: HSK 5 at least 180. English or Japanese-taught: no minimum Chinese. Non-native English speakers: TOEFL at least 90 or IELTS at least 6.5.
MentorYou may name only a mentor who appears in the English-taught catalog. The catalog itself was an attachment we did not open, so this page does not claim a public-health or lab seat is on it.
Class sizeFull-time master’s taught in English or Japanese needs at least five students, or the school may not run that class.
Joint PhDThe postgraduate page that opened at 上海交通大学医学院 is a joint PhD with Hebrew University. It asks for a master’s with a thesis, age under 40, and a GPA of 85 or above. It is not the SHUTCM master’s.
Joint PhD feeInternational applicants: RMB 800, not refunded. Chinese applicants on that page: RMB 250. The page says both sides remit tuition for the first five years of that joint programme. It does not print a yearly tuition number.
ClockSHUTCM master’s applications: 1 December 2025 to 15 May 2026. Admission notices by the middle of July 2026. Both dates had passed.
Research accessNot confirmed. A mentor’s consent line on a form is not a bench, a dataset, or a hospital badge.

Two Postgraduate Pages, Not a National Catalogue

The postgraduate URL that opened at 上海交通大学医学院 describes one joint PhD with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Medicine. It clusters work into immune regulation, cancer, infection immunity, metabolic disorders, and cell and developmental biology. It asks the applicant to choose two supervisors, at least one principal supervisor from each university, and to write the proposal from those two directions. It does not list master’s majors, and it does not list hospitals where a visitor may stand. Calling that page “postgraduate medicine in China” would hide how narrow it is.

The document that does price a master’s is the 2026 prospectus of 上海中医药大学, No. ENM2026900311. Instruction may be Chinese or English, and some courses may be Japanese. Applicants without a TCM background need a degree in medicine or a related science and are expected to be able to study and research on their own. That sentence is an eligibility line. It is not an offer of a laboratory and it is not a clinical appointment.

The Mentor Signs Before the Fee Makes Sense

Step 1 on the SHUTCM master’s prospectus is a mentor’s consent. You contact mentors from the catalog, confirm one, and have that person sign the consent section. You also pass a summary test described in an attachment. We did not open the catalog or the test notice, so we do not name mentors and we do not describe the test. After admission, a change of mentor is generally not accepted. The interview notice comes from the mentor’s team by email. Applicants in China must attend in person if they want to remain eligible for a government scholarship candidate slot. An online interview is allowed for others.

Only CSC Type A recipients are exempt from the SHUTCM application fee. Everyone else must upload payment proof or the file is invalid. Do not email the documents. The portal is apply.shutcm.edu.cn. A recommendation letter from an associate professor or higher is required for the full-time master’s, in Chinese or English. A bank deposit of at least CNY 100,000, or the school’s financial-support statement, is on the list. Passport validity of about ten months is advised, which is longer than the six months on the 上海交通大学医学院 undergraduate prospectus. Use the number that belongs to the file you are actually sending.

Tuition Follows Language and Full-Time Status

The master’s fee table is not a single “medical master’s price.” Full-time study taught in Chinese is CNY 34,000 a year. Part-time study taught in Chinese is CNY 51,000 a year. Full-time study taught in English or Japanese is CNY 51,000 a year. Part-time study taught in English or Japanese is CNY 60,000 a year. The prospectus says tuition covers lectures, clinical internship, tutor instruction, and thesis review. Teaching materials, books, accommodation, and medical insurance are not covered. Insurance is listed separately at CNY 800 a year. If a cooperation agreement exists, the prospectus says the agreement prevails. We did not open any such agreement.

Housing is not priced in the main text. The school says a dormitory notice goes out in the middle of July and that the fee may fluctuate. Living off campus needs the university’s approval and is self-paid. A minimum of five students applies to full-time English or Japanese master’s classes. If you are the only applicant for a niche lab topic, the class-size rule can stop the class even when a mentor was willing to sign. That risk belongs in your plan. It is not a risk DragonTrail can insure.

The Joint PhD Remits Tuition Only for Itself

Read the joint PhD numbers only against that programme. Applicants need a master’s degree with a thesis, must be under 40, and need a GPA of 85 or above from the master’s courses, including the thesis grade where it exists. English evidence for the Hebrew University side is TOEFL 90 or IELTS 7, or a certificate that earlier study was in English. The page also mentions CET-6 at 425 for Chinese students. International application fee is RMB 800. The page says both universities remit tuition for the first five years of joint PhD study. It does not say every medical PhD in Shanghai is free, and it does not say the programme lasts five years. “First five years” is the remission window printed there.

Chinese applicants on that page are also pointed to the SJTU graduate site with a date of 10 December, and the year is not printed beside that day on the paragraph we read. Do not invent the year. Scholarship text encourages eligible people to apply to the China Scholarship Council at the address the page prints. We asked for www.csc.edu.cn and received an error page, so this guide does not summarise CSC award amounts. The Hebrew University ranking sentence on that page is the school’s wording. We do not adopt it as a league table.

A Scholarship Paragraph Is Not an Award Letter

SHUTCM’s master’s prospectus says Chinese Government Scholarship benefits follow the Ministry’s regulations and that readers should see campuschina.org. On 29 October 2026 that host did not open, so no living stipend from that scheme is printed here. The same prospectus says admitted students are assigned to mentors by the school, and that people who want to choose a mentor must still finish the online application, the fee, and the evaluation. Shanghai Government Scholarship Type A and Type B are named for master’s applicants, without the yuan amounts on this prospectus. Those amounts do appear on the 上海交通大学医学院 scholarship guide, and they are that school’s guide. Do not paste the RMB 3,000 master’s allowance onto SHUTCM unless SHUTCM prints it.

Age bars also refuse to merge. SHUTCM’s master’s prospectus says under 65, with exceptions. The Shanghai Government Scholarship guide at 上海交通大学医学院 says a master’s applicant should be no more than 35, and a PhD applicant no more than 40. The joint PhD page says under 40. Three pages, three ceilings. The page that matches your application is the one you must meet. A person who is 50 may fit one prospectus and miss another.

What This Does Not Confirm

A postgraduate file does not confirm a bench, a dataset, a hospital badge, or time with patients. “Clinical internship” inside the SHUTCM tuition sentence means the prospectus says tuition covers that item. It does not describe what you may do with a patient, and it does not waive the need for the host to define the work. The joint PhD’s science blocks are research themes, not a rota.

If your aim is a short look at a ward rather than a degree, use the elective and observership pages. If your aim is a license at home, use the recognition page. DragonTrail can help you tell those aims apart. We do not sign the mentor line and we do not remit tuition.

Sources

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). Tuition, language rules, and application windows change, and the 2026 windows on the school pages had already closed. A CUCAS card is CUCAS’s listing. The World Directory of Medical Schools did not return a directory page. The Campus China address named in a scholarship paragraph did not open. A hospital email printed by a university is that university’s contact. It is not a placement DragonTrail has confirmed, and it is not permission to examine a patient.

FAQ

Is every medical master’s in China priced like the SHUTCM table?

No. The table is the 2026 international master’s prospectus at 上海中医药大学. Full-time Chinese-taught study is CNY 34,000 a year and full-time English or Japanese is CNY 51,000 a year. Another university’s master’s is another document. The joint PhD page at 上海交通大学医学院 does not use this table.

Do I need HSK for an English-taught master’s?

Not on this prospectus. It sets no minimum Chinese for English or Japanese instruction. Non-native English speakers still need TOEFL at least 90 or IELTS at least 6.5. A Chinese-taught place needs HSK 5 at 180 or above, unless you finished secondary or tertiary study in Chinese and the school accepts that proof.

Can I apply without a mentor’s signature?

The SHUTCM steps start with one mentor from the catalog signing the form. We did not open the catalog, so we cannot tell you that a named professor is on it. After admission, changing mentor is generally refused.

Does the joint PhD mean PhD tuition is free everywhere?

No. The remission sentence applies to that joint programme’s first five years, as the page prints it. It is not a national waiver. The page still charges an application fee of RMB 800 for international applicants.

Had the 2026 master’s deadline passed?

Yes, on the prospectus we opened. Applications ran from 1 December 2025 to 15 May 2026, and notices were to go out by the middle of July 2026. Those dates had passed by 29 October 2026. Do not send a late file to an email address. The prospectus says email submissions are not processed.

Will postgraduate study let me treat patients?

Not as a conclusion from these pages. One tuition line mentions clinical internship as something the fee covers. The lawful tasks, if any, are what the school and the hospital put in writing. This page does not authorise patient contact.

Why is Campus China mentioned but not summarised?

Because the master’s prospectus sends readers there for Chinese Government Scholarship rules, and the site did not open on 29 October 2026. Summarising a stipend from a closed page would be an invention. Ask the school for the current award rules.

Can DragonTrail match me to a supervisor?

No. The catalog and the consent signature belong to the university. Guidance from us can help you see which prospectus you are in. It does not select a mentor and it does not create a research place.

Compare study routes, or tell us the credential, the teaching language, and whether a home school must nominate you. Neither button admits you to a medical school, confirms a hospital, or licenses you to practice.
