MBA Programs in China
An MBA in China is a master’s degree a named school awards after its own admissions process, not a short course and not a seat DragonTrail can hold. The full-time English examples we could read on 29 October 2026 were CEIBS in Shanghai and Tsinghua’s Global MBA in Beijing, and their clocks and prices do not match.
Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).
DragonTrail has no MBA intake. CEIBS’s own pages disagree on the start month (August on the FAQ, September on the overview) and on the dollar gloss of RMB 488,000 (about USD 68,000 versus about USD 72,500). Tsinghua’s domestic notice and its English international pages are two tracks. CUCAS cards are not university invoices. Early Action for the CEIBS MBA class entering in 2027 closed on 14 October 2026.
At a Glance
| Credential | Degree. CEIBS calls it a Master of Business Administration. Tsinghua’s Chinese notice for the Global MBA names a graduate certificate, an MBA degree, and an MIT Sloan course certificate. None of those is an open-course attendance letter. |
|---|---|
| Host and faculty | CEIBS places the full-time MBA at its Shanghai campus (上海). Tsinghua’s notice places the full-time Global MBA in Beijing (北京) and describes it as run with MIT Sloan. We did not copy a faculty roster. |
| Work experience | CEIBS: two or more years, plus a bachelor’s degree. Tsinghua, on both the Chinese notice and the English criteria: at least three years after a bachelor’s, or at least two years after a master’s or doctorate, counted to the 2027 registration date. |
| Language | CEIBS: English for the full-time MBA. Mandarin is not required; the FAQ says free Mandarin classes exist during the programme. Tsinghua Global MBA: English, with Chinese electives on the English criteria page. Non-native English speakers need a listed proof. |
| Curriculum | CEIBS’s FAQ names core areas in the first two terms, electives from Term 3, China Modules, overseas modules, and an Integrated China Strategy Project. The course list can change. We did not paste a full catalogue. |
| Company access | Not a public host list. The FAQ describes a three-month consulting project with a real company and career treks such as Hong Kong. The company is unnamed. That is not a factory tour, and it is not bookable here. |
| Certificate | The degree is the school’s. Dual-degree options with Johns Hopkins (MPH) and Tufts (MALD) are claims on the CEIBS FAQ, not DragonTrail partnerships. Confirm the current dual-degree page before you rely on either name. |
| Schedule | CEIBS: 16 months, with a 12-month option; one intake a year. FAQ says the programme starts in August. The overview says September. Tsinghua: a two-year full-time plan. Do not merge the lengths. |
| Employer papers | CEIBS’s FAQ says a completed MBA file generally includes an organisational chart and a company brochure, plus two recommendation letters and essays. That is application evidence. It is not proof the employer will pay, and it is not educational leave. |
Which MBA You Are Actually Reading
An MBA search returns at least four products that share the letters and not the contract. CEIBS’s full-time MBA is 16 months in 上海, English, with a 12-month option. Tsinghua’s Global MBA, on the notice dated 14 October 2026, is a two-year full-time plan in 北京, English, with a printed class size of 30. The same Tsinghua pages also describe part-time MBAs, mainly in Chinese, one in Beijing and a technology programme whose main campus is Shenzhen. CUCAS then adds cards for other universities. Quoting one tuition under all four names is how people budget the wrong year.
DragonTrail does not sell any of them. Find a Suitable Program is the route hub, not an application portal. Admissions tests are the school’s too. CEIBS asks for a GMAT, a GRE, or its own admission test. For the class entering in 2027 it listed that test on 12 December 2026 and 20 March 2027, in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, or online. Tsinghua’s Chinese notice says the Global MBA project it describes sits in the national postgraduate exam, with subjects 199 and 204, for the domestic track. The English international guide is a different file. Do not send a foreign passport holder to 研招网 because a Chinese sentence mentioned it.
Read the Yuan, and Leave the Dollars in Conflict
CEIBS prints RMB 488,000 for the 16-month MBA on the overview, on the MBA 2029 fees page, on the MBA 2028 expenses page, and on the FAQ. What the school will not hold still is the dollar gloss: about USD 72,500 on the 2029 fees page, and about USD 68,000 on the 2028 expenses page and on the FAQ. Textbooks are excluded. The fees page says tuition covers teaching materials other than textbooks, campus internet, and school databases open to MBA students. Housing is extra. Both fee pages say on-campus single rooms are around RMB 3,300 a month. “Around” is CEIBS’s word. We did not turn it into a lease.
Payment timing is also CEIBS’s, and the sentences are not identical. The fees page says students without a loan pay 70 percent at registration and the remaining 30 percent no later than one week before the end of Term 4. The FAQ says the remaining 30 percent is due about one year in. The application fee is RMB 1,000, or USD 180 for international applicants, and it is non-refundable. Early Action applicants for MBA 2029 were told the fee would be rebated on enrolment if they met 14 October 2026. That date has passed. Tsinghua’s sticker is a different number entirely: RMB 198,000 for the Global MBA, paid over two years at RMB 99,000 a year on the Chinese notice. The English FAQ’s “around $30,000” is their gloss, not our conversion. The part-time figure of RMB 418,000 is only the FAQ’s singular “part-time MBA,” not a price we can pin on Shenzhen alone.
Who the Schools Say They Will Read
CEIBS expects a bachelor’s degree or above, two or more years of full-time work, a test score, and English proficiency. The FAQ says about 40 percent of students receive some financial aid. That percentage is CEIBS’s claim about its own class, not a promise to you. Tsinghua’s English criteria ask non-native English speakers for IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 85 if the test was before 21 January 2026, TOEFL iBT 4.5 if the test was on or after that date, Duolingo 120, or a prior degree taught entirely in English. The scale change is theirs. We did not collapse 85 and 4.5 into one cutoff.
Work experience at Tsinghua is measured to the registration date, not to the day you click apply. A bachelor’s needs three years; a master’s or doctorate needs two. The Chinese notice also describes a specialist route of five years with extra academic conditions, for people sitting the domestic exam as equivalent to a bachelor’s. The international PDF excerpt we read did not offer that route. Overseas degrees need authentication from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (教育部留学服务中心) before registration, or the offer fails.
What the Classroom Includes, and What It Does Not
CEIBS’s FAQ says the first two terms cover organisational behaviour, financial accounting, marketing, economics, strategy, corporate finance, data analytics, operational thinking, and business, society, and environment, plus a Leadership Journey through Term 2. Electives start in Term 3. It mentions about 40 electives, including entrepreneurship and AI topics, and exchange with more than 30 partner schools. A later answer on the same FAQ talks about eight partner schools for a different programme. We do not merge “more than 30” and “eight” into one network. China Modules and overseas modules are curriculum blocks for enrolled students. They are not a one-week immersion you can buy beside the degree.
The Integrated China Strategy Project is the closest CEIBS comes, on the pages we read, to company access: a three-month consulting engagement with a real company. No company name was on that answer. Career support, recruitment fairs, and an entrepreneur track through MBA InnoLab, including a Demo Day, are described as school services for enrolled students. There is no Demo Day date on the FAQ. None of this is a visitor programme, a startup fund, or a job. Health insurance, the visa fee, and travel for overseas modules are called out as costs outside tuition. We did not open a CEIBS visa instruction in this pass, so the visa category stays the school’s letter, not a guess from the length of the degree.
The Clock for the Class Entering in 2027
On the CEIBS overview, applications for the MBA class of 2029, entering in 2027, were printed in four rounds. Early Action closed on 14 October 2026, before this page was checked, with decisions by 4 November 2026. Round 1 was 2 December 2026, decisions by 23 December 2026. Round 2 was 17 March 2027, decisions by 14 April 2027. Round 3 was 19 May 2027, decisions by 19 June 2027. The FAQ’s older sentence, that the programme “typically” opens in September and starts in August, does not replace this table, and the August-versus-September start is still unresolved. We describe the clock. We do not invite the application.
Tsinghua’s 14 October 2026 notice tells domestic candidates to use the graduate-school portal and the university’s own materials system, and it says late files are not added. We did not copy a closing timestamp from the portion of that notice we used, so this page prints no Tsinghua deadline. If you need the hour, read the notice again. CUCAS cards with 2027 start dates are a third clock and a third price. They are discussed on the degrees page so this page does not pretend they are CEIBS or Tsinghua fees.
| Early Action | 14 October 2026 — already past on the review date. Decision was printed as 4 November 2026. |
|---|---|
| Round 1 | 2 December 2026, decision by 23 December 2026. Still ahead of 29 October 2026. CEIBS’s date, not an open seat from us. |
| Round 2 | 17 March 2027, decision by 14 April 2027. |
| Round 3 | 19 May 2027, decision by 19 June 2027. |
| Admission test | 12 December 2026 and 20 March 2027, in 上海, 北京, 深圳, or online, for the class of 2029. |
Employer Papers Without a Sponsorship Myth
A company brochure in an MBA file shows the committee where you work. It does not mean the company will pay RMB 488,000, and CEIBS does not say sponsorship is required for the full-time MBA. Loans are mentioned; the fees page says someone with a loan pays, at registration, the part of tuition the loan does not cover. The English Tsinghua FAQ says student loans are not available to international students, while scholarships may be. Those are two schools’ aid rules. Neither rule is a DragonTrail bursary.
Employer-sponsored study and statutory educational leave are a different route, with a recognizing body in the workplace’s jurisdiction. Nothing on the MBA pages we read says the CEIBS or Tsinghua MBA is registered for German Bildungsurlaub or any other country’s paid-leave scheme. If your employer needs a certificate of attendance, ask the school what it actually issues after the degree, and keep that letter separate from the diploma. Dormitory availability is “around” a monthly figure, not a booking.

FAQ
Is the CEIBS MBA tuition RMB 488,000?
That yuan figure is what CEIBS printed for the 16-month MBA on the overview, the fees page, the expenses page, and the FAQ, read on 29 October 2026. The dollar gloss is not stable: about USD 72,500 on one page and about USD 68,000 on others. We do not convert it again. Housing, textbooks, insurance, and overseas-module travel sit outside the fee.
Does the programme start in August or September?
CEIBS’s FAQ says the full-time MBA starts in August. The overview’s start-date line says September. Both were live when we read them. We do not choose a month for the school. Use the page that matches the cohort you are actually filing.
How does Tsinghua’s Global MBA differ?
The 14 October 2026 notice describes a two-year full-time English programme in Beijing, 30 places, RMB 198,000 over two years, plus a Tsinghua graduate certificate, an MBA degree, and an MIT Sloan course certificate. Work experience is three years after a bachelor’s or two years after a higher degree. That is not the CEIBS 16-month contract.
Which English score does Tsinghua want?
For non-native speakers, the international criteria page lists IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 120, a prior degree taught in English, or TOEFL iBT. TOEFL is 85 if the test was before 21 January 2026 and 4.5 if it was on or after that date. The two cutoffs are a scale change, not a typo we should average.
Will the MBA include a company internship I can name?
The CEIBS FAQ describes a three-month Integrated China Strategy Project with a real company and does not name the company. Career treks are mentioned, including Hong Kong. There is no public host list, and DragonTrail cannot add one. A project inside a degree is not a study-tour day.
Can I sit the Chinese national MBA exam as an international applicant?
Only if you are on the track that notice describes. The Chinese page says that Global MBA project belongs to the national postgraduate exam. The English international guide is a separate set of qualifications. A foreign passport is not automatically the domestic exam. Read the guide that matches the passport the school will see.
Does Early Action still rebate the application fee?
The MBA 2029 fees page tied the rebate to Early Action applicants who met 14 October 2026. That deadline had passed on our review date. Later rounds were still printed. The application fee itself was RMB 1,000 or USD 180, non-refundable, except for that stated rebate.
What is the next honest step?
Open the school’s current round dates, match your years of work to the bar on that page, and budget housing separately from tuition. If you need a short course instead of a degree, leave this page. Find a Suitable Program and Request Guidance do not file the MBA for you.
