What Advanced Should Mean

If you still need a teacher to introduce every grammar point in a standard textbook, you are not buying an advanced month, and that is fine. Advanced, on the pages schools publish, starts where their numbered ladders end. GoEast’s group roadmap stops at level 10, which they align to HSK 3.0 Bands 3–4 and CEFR B1, and then offers private lessons for Bands 5–9, business Chinese, or spoken Chinese. CLI talks about HSK 5 and HSK 6 as multi-month and multi-year outcomes of focused study, and it says the exam itself is mostly written and listening, a poor portrait of spoken ease. An advanced month that only harvests another HSK drill can be exactly what you need before a test, and a waste if your gap is chairing a meeting.

Bring work. A contract clause, a paper abstract, a patient-history template, a speech you must give. A good advanced teacher will turn that into lessons. A weak one will open the next chapter of a book you have already outgrown. That’s Mandarin says private content can be tailor-made, on the prices page. Hold them to a sample week built from your document, not from a slogan.

Why the Group Disappears

Groups need peers. There are fewer advanced learners than beginners in any city in any month, and they want different things. That’s Mandarin can talk about eight intensive spots per level per city and still have no advanced peers for you in Suzhou in March. LTL prices one-to-one weeks from USD 774 in Beijing because that product does not wait for peers. GoEast is explicit that the top of the ladder is private. If a school insists it has an advanced group, ask how many students are enrolled now, not how many the room can hold. A cap of six with one student is a private lesson wearing a group price — or a private price you did not expect. Get the clause.

University language programs are the other place advanced learners land, sometimes in larger classes with a set curriculum and a transcript. That is a different contract: credits, semesters, and an admissions office. The university page covers it. Do not expect a private school’s weekly invoice to look like a university’s annual tuition, or the reverse.

HSK 5, HSK 6, and the Newer Bands

GoEast’s HSK page is useful and messy. One table suggests 25 hours for HSK 3, 25 for HSK 4, 30 for HSK 5, and 40 for HSK 6, plus “new HSK 6–9 on demand.” Another block on the same page says 35 hours for HSK 5 and 45 for HSK 6. Spoken HSKK advanced is 15 hours in their table. The price line is from USD 175. They also say the last major content update they mention was August 2023. Those contradictions are why you ask which table the invoice uses. None of the hour counts is a DragonTrail recommendation. They are a school’s estimate of exam drill, not of the years CLI says the level itself can take.

Chinese Testing International at chinesetest.cn is the operator. On 29 October 2026 we could open the homepage: it presents the testing service, a count of centers, an email, and phone numbers. It did not return a downloadable syllabus in that fetch. Before you pay for “new HSK 7” preparation, confirm the level is actually offered at a test center you can reach. A course for an exam that is not scheduled is a language course with a fashionable name.

Register, Speed, and Professional Words

Advanced learners usually know the grammar and fail the register. You sound like a textbook in a negotiation, or like a negotiation in a classroom. Business, medical, diplomatic, and trade pages on this cluster are about those vocabularies. They are not degrees. A month of medical Mandarin does not make you a clinician. A month of contract reading does not make you a lawyer. Say the professional limit out loud when you hire the teacher, so the lessons stay inside language.

Speed is the other advanced skill. CLI notes that HSK does not measure the ease of conversation. If your goal is a fast meeting, buy speaking drills and recording review, not another vocabulary list. GoEast’s spoken track after level 10 is aimed at colloquial confidence. That’s Mandarin’s intensive group, by contrast, is a heavy weekly load that may be too elementary in content even when the hours are serious. Match content to level. Hours alone do not make a course advanced.

Staying Long Enough for the Work to Matter

A four-week private block can retune a skill. It will not, on CLI’s own wording, carry you from a standing start to HSK 6. If you want a long advanced stay, the visa and the housing have to match the months. CLI describes X2 status for up to 180 days and a second X2 past six months, with X1 only through Guangxi Normal University (广西师范大学) on their study-abroad route. A private language school that will not touch student visas, which is LTL’s published position, is a difficult home for a nine-month advanced plan unless you already have another status. Read that limit before you fall in love with a teacher.

Housing for a long private stay is a lease, not a homestay by default. CLI says apartments start to make sense at six months and that once tuition is paid the rent they sign is not refunded. That’s Mandarin’s private apartment is a studio or one-bedroom aimed at four weeks and up. A year in a homestay can be wonderful or stifling. Ask about a move-out rule before you pay the long invoice.

How to Hire an Advanced Month

Send a writing sample and a recording, or sit a live placement. Ask for a week-one plan that quotes your material. Confirm minutes, the teacher’s experience with your kind of text, and what “advanced” means in their level numbers. If they only have a group, ask who else is in it. Price the month as private-hour mathematics, using published floors only as a smell test: GoEast from USD 29 a class hour online, That’s Mandarin from 192 RMB a class on a stale-headed page, LTL from USD 774 a week in Beijing for a one-to-one week whose internal hour count you still must confirm.

DragonTrail will not recruit the teacher for you as a booked package. Request Guidance with the sample and the dates if you want help seeing whether a private school month or a university term fits. The work starts when that teacher has your document, not when you choose a city photo.
