Musicology and Dance Share a Sentence

Music and performing arts in China, at the university whose international catalog we could read, means Musicology and Dance inside Beijing Normal University’s School of Arts and Communication. The catalog groups them with calligraphy, fine arts, and design, and it uses one expertise sentence for the group: supporting materials are required. The brochure then prices arts majors at 27,700 RMB a year. The extract shows 27,700 in that block. HSK 5 at 180 remains, because these are not the two Chinese-teaching exceptions. Teaching is Chinese. The length is four years.

The sentence does not tell a pianist what to record or a dancer what to wear. That silence is deliberate in this article. Inventing a three-minute etude would be worse than sending you back to the PDF. When the next catalog opens, read the minutes, the file format, and the deadline together. The 2026 version of that deadline was 15 March, and it has passed. Art and Design holds fine arts and design so a painter is not advised from the music row.

The File That Closed in March

Online filing was 15 November 2025 through 15 March 2026, China Standard Time. The fee was 500 RMB and was not refundable. The personal statement was handwritten in Chinese on the university’s form. A typed page was refused. The expertise materials were additional, not a substitute for the statement. CSCA was required, with subjects from the catalog. We will not guess a music-theory paper. Two majors meant two interviews. Results were described from June 2026. Beijing dorm booking ended at noon on 15 August 2026.

On 29 October 2026 every one of those dates is history. The Chinese text of the brochure prevails. Age was 18 to 40 with birth after 31 August 1986. A later file can move the birth cutoff. Nationality follows 教外函〔2020〕12号 where a parent is Chinese or the applicant naturalised. The mailbox was bk@bnu.edu.cn. Do not send a recording there against a closed round and expect a courtesy audition. The next notice is the only door.

The Conservatory Gap Is Intentional

Readers looking for music in China often mean a conservatory. We did not open an international fee page for the Central Conservatory of Music or the Shanghai Conservatory in this batch. We will not borrow BNU’s 27,700 and call it a conservatory year. We will not borrow CAFA’s undated 52,000, which sits on a fine-arts global page, and call it voice tuition. If you have the conservatory’s own PDF, that PDF is the source. This article should not be cited as if we had read it.

BLCU’s dual degree with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts is the closest performing-arts partnership we did see priced: 25,800 RMB a year at BLCU and 35,000 at NACTA, for Chinese plus Art Management. Management is the word. It is not a performance major in opera or dance. The BLCU entry deadlines we read have passed, and the English and Chinese pages disagree on the September year. Confirm the dual-degree row still exists before you add the two tuitions. Education and Teacher Training is the page if the goal is to teach music in a school system. A performance degree does not, on these pages, include that license.

A Concert and a Festival Are Not Auditions

Buying a ticket, joining a drum circle, or filming a street performance can be worthwhile and still produce no university credit. The BNU row produces an arts degree only if you are admitted and you finish. Ask a short course what paper it issues. If the paper is attendance, do not budget it as Musicology. Health rules for dancers and singers were not in the international brochure sections we used. A domestic admissions charter at another university may ban color blindness in studio fields. We will not import that medical line into music. If the next BNU PDF adds a physical requirement, it counts then. Insurance and a practice-room fee were not in the tuition band. Cost of Studying is where a room and instrument carriage belong after you know the year is real.

Scholarships Do Not Reopen March

The brochure names BNU awards, the Beijing government scholarship, the Chinese Government Scholarship, and the teachers’ scholarship. A music applicant should read whether the award covers an arts major. The teachers’ scholarship is aimed at Chinese-language teaching, which is a different row. Full scholarship students were told not to book the Beijing dorm; the university arranged it. Everyone else missed the 2026 booking window. Zhuhai’s 7,500 RMB room is for Zhuhai majors, not a default music dorm in Haidian.

The visa line is an X1 with the admission notice and a JW form, after you are admitted. There is no admission to attach it to until the next round. False materials cancel status. Two schools at once are forbidden. Those rules matter if a student tries to hold a language place and a music place. Universities and Schools keeps 双一流 as glossary. BNU’s brochure uses the label about the university. It is not a ranking of music schools, and we will not build one in the conservatory’s absence.

What the Next Music Notice Must Include

The major name, Musicology or Dance, the expertise spec in minutes and format, the HSK floor, the fee cell, and the deadline. If a conservatory page is the real goal, send that URL so this article can stop being the only music page. Until then the honest statement is that one university’s closed arts band is what we priced, and a national conservatory price is what we refused to invent.
