Art and Design
Art and design in China, on the brochure we could use, is Beijing Normal University’s 2026 arts list: fine arts, design, calligraphy, and digital media, taught in Chinese, with a portfolio, at the arts band of 27,700 RMB a year. That online window closed on 15 March 2026. 中央美术学院’s 2026 international brochure is a PDF we did not open, so its intake rules are not quoted as if we had read them.
Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).
DragonTrail has no studio and no foundation course. CAFA’s global page prints a bachelor’s at 52,000 RMB a year and a foundation year at 90,000, or 60,000 for half a year, without an intake year on the HTML. We will not pretend those numbers are the 2026 PDF. BNU’s portfolio line is real and the window is shut. A sketchbook gathered for travel is not either application.
At a Glance
| BNU arts names | Fine Arts, Design, Calligraphy, Digital Media Arts, and Theatre, Film and TV Literature, in the School of Arts and Communication. Expertise is required. Supporting materials must be provided. Awarded as arts. |
|---|---|
| BNU price and language | Arts sit in the science-engineering-arts band: 27,700 RMB a year, 14,250 a semester. The catalog extract prints 27,700 beside this school. Teaching is Chinese. HSK 5 at 180. Four years. |
| Closed window | 15 November 2025 to 15 March 2026. Fee 500 RMB, not refundable. Handwritten Chinese statement plus the portfolio the row demands. Results from June 2026. Beijing dorm booking ended 15 August 2026. |
| CAFA global table | Undated HTML: bachelor’s 52,000 RMB a year, master’s 60,000, doctorate 68,000, foundation 90,000 a year or 60,000 for half a year. Bachelor’s applications described as March and April, exams in May. Year not printed. |
| CAFA 2026 PDF | A landing page posted 12 November 2025 links a 2026 international undergraduate brochure PDF. We did not parse it. Do not treat the global table as that PDF’s text. |
| BLCU dual art degree | Chinese plus Art Management with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts: BLCU 25,800 RMB a year and NACTA 35,000 RMB a year. HSK rules follow that dual-degree block. Not a painting major. |
| Tsinghua design inside engineering | Zijing’s urban guide includes design and landscape architecture as engineering exits, at 100,000 RMB a year, in English. That is architecture’s page, not a fine-arts academy. |
| DragonTrail | No portfolio review and no foundation-year seat. Find a Suitable Program does not upload images. |
BNU Asks for Skill, and the Round Is Over
Art and design in China at Beijing Normal University is not a humanities essay with a gallery visit attached. The 2026 catalog puts Fine Arts, Design, Calligraphy, Digital Media Arts, and Theatre, Film and TV Literature in the School of Arts and Communication and says a certain level of expertise is required, with supporting materials. The brochure prices arts with science and engineering at 27,700 RMB a year. The catalog extract shows 27,700 in that area. HSK 5 at 180 still applies. The certificate date must be no earlier than 1 November 2023. Chinese is the teaching language. Four years.
The file closed on 15 March 2026. The 500 RMB fee was not refundable. The personal statement was handwritten. The portfolio, whatever the department specified, had to be in that closed file. We will not describe sheet sizes we did not read. Results were notified from June 2026. Dorm booking ended on 15 August 2026. On 29 October 2026 you need the next catalog, not a late email to bk@bnu.edu.cn. Music and Performing Arts holds musicology and dance, which share the expertise sentence and should not be buried in design.
CAFA’s PDF Is Linked and Unread
中央美术学院 published a 2026 international undergraduate brochure as a PDF from a page dated 12 November 2025, with a phone +86-10-64771114 and an address at 8 Huajiadi South Street, Chaoyang. The landing page is not the rules. We did not extract HSK, dates, or fees from the PDF. Anyone who tells you the 2026 CAFA fine-arts intake from a third-party blog is not using this article. Open the PDF yourself or wait until it is read properly.
The global study page, separate from that PDF, lists schools of Chinese painting, fine art, design, humanities, architecture, city design, experimental art, and arts administration. It describes bachelor’s applications in March and April and exams in May, “each year,” and it prints 52,000 RMB a year for a bachelor’s and 90,000 or 60,000 for foundation. No intake year sits on that HTML. Foundation is for people who want to apply for a bachelor’s, in the page’s words. It is not automatic admission. Chinese Government Scholarship steps on that page run through campuschina.org and are not a DragonTrail award. Treat the global table as a dated-only-by-our-visit snapshot, retrieved 29 October 2026, not as the 2026 brochure.
Do Not Mix 27,700, 52,000, and 100,000
Three art-adjacent prices are now in play, and they are three schools. BNU’s closed arts band is 27,700 RMB a year, Chinese, with HSK 5. CAFA’s undated global bachelor’s line is 52,000. Tsinghua’s English urban and design route is 100,000 a year and ends in an engineering or professional architecture degree, which is Architecture and Urban Planning. Averaging them produces a number no cashier will take. Pick the school whose degree word you need, then use only that school’s cell.
BLCU’s dual degree in Chinese plus Art Management, with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, prints two bills: 25,800 RMB a year at BLCU and 35,000 at NACTA. That is management of art, plus Chinese, not a studio major in oil painting. HSK on the dual-degree block is the block’s own rule. The BLCU deadlines we read have passed, and the September year conflicts between the English and Chinese pages. A new table is required. Do not pay both universities because a blog added the numbers.
A Travel Sketchbook Is Not a Portfolio File
BNU says supporting materials are required and does not, in the brochure section we used, specify paper size. CAFA’s global page talks about fields and calendars and does not replace the unread PDF’s exam rules. Tsinghua’s urban guide does not print a portfolio at all. Three different silences. The practical rule is to follow the upload list on the live form and to ignore a template from an unrelated academy. DragonTrail will not critique the work and will not tell you that a photograph of a hutong is a foundation-course assignment.
Calligraphy at BNU is an arts major with the expertise line, not a two-week brush class. Digital media is an arts major here and also appears as a technology title at BLCU, which is the media page. Same English words, different school. Media, Communications, and Film keeps journalism and film so a designer does not file the wrong HSK. Color-vision and health rules for studio work were not in the BNU international brochure sections we used. If a PDF adds them, they count. We will not import a domestic gaokao medical line.
Money Around the Tuition
BNU’s 500 RMB application fee was not refundable, and the personal statement was separate from the portfolio. Housing in Beijing had a booking window that has closed. Zhuhai’s 7,500 RMB dorm is not an arts dorm in Haidian unless the major is taught there. CAFA’s global page mentions an international student apartment, single rooms with a public restroom, and does not print the weekly rate in the extract we kept. Leave the rate blank. Scholarships through CSC are a parallel path with their own months, January to April on the global page’s description, and a university decision after that. They are not a discount you can claim in the same breath as self-funded 52,000.
Cost of Studying is where materials, a room, and food belong after tuition is a verified cell. Paint, paper, and software are not in any of these admissions tables. Budget them as your own cost, not as a fee the university has published here. Universities and Schools holds league labels. CAFA’s history as a national academy is the school’s own story. It is not our ranking against BNU or Tsinghua.
What a Usable Art File Looks Like
A usable file names the school, the major, the language, the HSK or English test, the portfolio spec, the fee, and the deadline year. BNU’s last public version has the language, the band, the expertise sentence, and a deadline that has passed. CAFA’s usable version is the PDF we did not parse, plus whatever the global page still shows when you open it. Tsinghua’s usable version is the urban guide, if an engineering degree is actually what you want. Send the one you mean.
We can say whether the fee cell is still the one in this note. We cannot photograph the work, we cannot sit a May exam, and we cannot convert a foundation invoice into a bachelor’s offer. How To Apply orders passports and transcripts. It does not know the sheet size. What To Study is the hub above this major. When the next BNU arts catalog opens, the handwritten statement rule may or may not survive. Read it before you print anything.

FAQ
Does DragonTrail review portfolios or offer studios?
No. BNU, CAFA, and Tsinghua run their own admissions. This page records what we could and could not read on 29 October 2026. Find a Suitable Program does not upload images.
What did BNU charge for arts majors?
The brochure’s arts band is 27,700 RMB a year, and the catalog extract prints 27,700 beside the School of Arts and Communication. The 2026 window closed on 15 March 2026. Expertise and supporting materials were required.
Did you read CAFA’s 2026 brochure?
No. We opened the landing page that links the PDF, posted 12 November 2025. We did not parse the PDF. The global page’s 52,000 RMB bachelor’s line has no intake year on the HTML. Those are different documents.
Is Tsinghua’s design route a fine-arts degree?
It is an English-taught engineering or professional architecture exit at 100,000 RMB a year. Use the architecture page if that parchment is the goal. Do not call it a CAFA studio degree.
What is the Chinese-plus-art-management fee?
BLCU prints 25,800 RMB a year for its part and 35,000 RMB a year for the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. The deadlines we saw on the BLCU entry page have passed. Confirm the row is still offered.
Do I need HSK for BNU design?
The 2026 brochure teaches the bachelor’s in Chinese and asks for HSK 5 at 180 outside two Chinese-teaching majors. Design is not those majors. A future English-taught studio would publish a different rule.
Can a short calligraphy course replace the degree?
No. Calligraphy on the BNU catalog is an arts major with an expertise requirement. A short course that does not end in the university’s degree is a different product. Ask what paper it issues.
What should I send so you can update this?
The parsed CAFA PDF, or the next BNU arts row with the portfolio spec and the fee cell. We will not invent either. We still cannot admit you.
