Language, Literature, and Sinology Are Three Rows

Chinese language, literature, and China studies collapse in conversation and separate on tables. BLCU’s College of International Chinese Education prints a cluster: Chinese Language, a Chinese-English bilingual track, Chinese with economics and trade, International Chinese Language Education, translation tracks, Chinese Language and Culture, and more. The language rule on that cluster is HSK 4 at 180. Korean-Chinese translation also needs TOPIK 3 or native Korean. The tuition number printed with the cluster is 25,800 RMB a year. A star on some titles means March and September entry. Check the star before you assume a spring start.

Literature at BNU is Chinese Language and Literature, a literature degree, HSK 5 at 180, not HSK 4. The 2026 brochure closed on 15 March 2026. Humanities are priced at 24,000 RMB a year and science at 27,700. Literature should be read against the humanities band only after you see the cell. Sinology at BLCU is an English-taught special program with IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90, and the fee cell was empty in our extract. Empty means empty. Education and Teacher Training holds the teacher-training titles so a culture major is not described as a classroom license.

An HSK Score Is Not the Degree

HSK, 汉语水平考试, is a test. BLCU and BNU use it as an entry rule. Neither page says DragonTrail issues the score, and we do not. A language major may raise your level. It does not replace the test center. Non-degree language study at BLCU is described on a different entry note: a high-school diploma, ages that differ for short-term students, and no degree fee in the paragraph we used. Do not pay 25,800 and expect a one-month course, and do not pay a short-course invoice and expect the bachelor’s.

From fall 2026, BLCU requires CSCA results for every international undergraduate, and it points to csca.cn. The Chinese page says the same and adds that a valid CSCA score is part of the file. It does not say CSCA replaces HSK. Budget for both until a notice deletes one. The registration fee is 800 RMB, online, not refundable. Materials in other languages need notarised Chinese or English translations. A missing final diploma before registration cancels admission.

The September Year Is Printed Two Ways

The English entry page says March 2026 entry closed on 12 January 2026, and it says September 2025 entry closed on 30 June 2026. The Chinese page says March 2026 closed on 12 January 2026 and September 2026 closed on 30 June 2026. A deadline after the intake it claims to serve, on the English page, is hard to use. A deadline that matches September 2026, on the Chinese page, is easier to read and still in the past on 29 October 2026. We will not tell you the English year was a typo. We will tell you not to file against either date. Ask the office which cohort, if any, is open now, and keep the reply.

Nationality text on both pages follows the ministry notice, 教外函〔2020〕12号: four years of foreign nationality and two years of actual residence in the four years before 30 April of the enrollment year, nine months counting as a year, stamps as evidence. The enrollment year in that sentence moves when the intake moves. Do not reuse a 2026 stamp packet for a later April without reading the new line. Age is 18 to 55 on the BLCU degree page. BNU’s brochure was 18 to 40 with birth after 31 August 1986. Different universities, different caps.

What the Closed Literature File Asked

BNU’s literature applicants used the same machinery as its other Chinese-taught bachelor’s files: handwritten personal statement, 500 RMB not refundable, CSCA from the catalog, an interview, paper originals after review, passport valid past 31 March 2027. Chinese as a Second Language was allowed HSK 4. Chinese Language and Literature was not. Teaching Chinese in Zhuhai is a third row with a Guangdong guardian rule if you are under 18, and a 7,500 RMB Zhuhai dorm that is not a Haidian literature room. Beijing dorm booking ended 15 August 2026.

The mailing address on that brochure was A103, Main Building, 19 Xinjiekouwai Street, bk@bnu.edu.cn. The Chinese version prevails. Scholarships, including the teachers’ scholarship at cis.chinese.cn, are separate. None of them reopens March. If your aim is literature rather than spoken Chinese, wait for the next BNU catalog rather than filing a BLCU language major and hoping the titles will be treated as equal. They are not equal.

A Tokyo Year Is Priced in Yen

BLCU prints a Chinese-Japanese bilingual major with the Tokyo campus: HSK 4 at 180, Beijing tuition 25,800 RMB a year, Tokyo tuition 1,000,000 yen a year. That is the only yen figure on the pages we used for this subject. Do not convert it at a rate we did not read. Ask which year you spend in which city before you add the currencies. A dual degree in Chinese plus artificial intelligence, with the University of Science and Technology Beijing, is on the technology page of this cluster, not a literature degree.

Translation majors inside the 25,800 block, including English-Chinese and localisation, are language degrees with extra language rules where the row says so. They are not a literature degree and not a media degree. Media, Communications, and Film holds journalism and film. History and Philosophy holds those two BNU departments. China studies as a phrase is not, by itself, any of those rows. Sinology is the closest English title we found, and it is unpriced in the cell.

Match the Certificate You Actually Need

If you need a language bachelor’s at HSK 4, start from the BLCU block and the next deadline the office confirms, not from a passed June date. If you need literature on the parchment, start from the next BNU catalog and HSK 5. If you need Sinology in English, start from the IELTS 6.5 row and refuse to invent tuition. If you need only a term of classes, use the non-degree note and expect a different fee, which we did not quote because that note did not print the degree block’s 25,800 as the short-course price.

Send the live table if the September-year conflict has been corrected, or if Sinology has gained a number. We can read it. We cannot register you for HSK, we cannot teach the course, and we cannot treat 双一流 or 985 as a ranking of Chinese departments. Universities and Schools keeps that glossary.
