Summer Internships

Summer internships in China are often a full-time July that the work-study rules do not describe. The vacation cap is for students a Chinese school already enrolled, and DragonTrail has no summer employer.

Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).

No company published a July seat, a stipend, or a supervisor that we could cite. 北京大学’s International Summer Lab is research, not a company desk: no courses, no credits, fees exempted. The 2021 勤工助学 vacation line is 16 hours a week and 80 a month, and only for students the measures cover.

Who this is forPeople hoping to spend a summer at a company or a lab in China. A full-time July is not the same product as a vacation hour cap.
ClockVacation work-study, where it applies, is generally 16 hours a week and 80 a month. X2 is study of no more than 180 days. Neither line is a job offer.
MoneyThe summer lab exempts application and tuition fees. The health-institute note prints no fee. DragonTrail has no summer price and no stipend.
Who decidesThe Chinese school or the lab that wrote the page, then the consulate. Not DragonTrail.
PapersAn admission notice for X2, an invitation for F, or a work-permit notification for Z. The summer lab page does not issue these for you.
OutcomeNo credit from the summer lab. No job at the end. A questionnaire is not a project assignment.
Easy to mix upUsing the 16-hour vacation cap to justify a 40-hour company week. The cap is an upper line for work-study, not a full-time schedule.
Worked exampleA student already enrolled for more than a year may ask their Chinese university about vacation work-study. A June arrival with no enrollment may not.
What we do not doDragonTrail does not reserve a July desk, a dorm bed, or a supervisor for a summer internship.

July Is Not Automatically a Vacation Cap

The 2021 measures raise the cap in winter or summer vacation to generally 16 hours a week and 80 a month. That sentence is still 勤工助学, for a student at a degree-teaching higher-education school. A 40-hour company week in July is a different request. If you are not enrolled at that Chinese school, the vacation sentence does not apply to you at all. DragonTrail cannot stretch 16 hours into a full-time month.

A Summer Lab Is Not a Company

北京大学’s program list describes an International Summer Lab for science and engineering. Courses will not be taken. Credits are not earned. Application and tuition fees are exempted. The list names no company and no stipend. The phone on that list is 86-10-62751230. Treating the lab as a software internship, or as a bank internship, adds a host the page does not contain.

A New Arrival Misses the One-Year Line

Off-campus work-study asks for more than one continuous year already at the current school, age 18 or older, and a study residence document with more than six months left. A student who lands in June for a first summer has not accumulated that year. The ten-day annotation at the exit-entry office comes after those conditions, not before them. A tourist stamp is not a study residence document.

Short Study Uses X2, Not a Guess

A summer that is study for no more than 180 days is the X2 description on the Sweden note dated 2026/10/12. X2 asks for an admission notice, and form DQ if it applies. A summer that is work asks for a Z paper, starting with a Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit. A summer that is only a visit or a study tour is the F description and needs an invitation. We do not choose among those three for you.

The Health Institute’s Note Is Not a Seat

北京大学’s Institute for Global Health and Development posted scientific research internship opportunities on 2025/08/14. The page says the questionnaire collects information and the institute will write if a project fits. Mail is ghd@pku.edu.cn and the phone is +86 010 62759213. English reading and writing is preferred. There is no fee, no weekly hour, and no visa line. A form you fill is not an offer.

No July Date Is on This Page

Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution. The senior visiting window at 北京大学 is 1–31 March for a fall start, which is not July. The Law School’s spring months are March to June, and its fall months are September to December. None of those calendars is a summer internship roster. If a host will not name the weeks, you do not have a summer yet.

These pages were read on 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai). A fee, an hour cap, and an application window belong to the office named in the link. If a date has passed, or a line on a visa note looks incomplete, the page says so. None of this is a placement or a group visit DragonTrail can reserve, and none of it is legal advice.

FAQ

Does the summer vacation cap allow a full-time internship?

No. The 2021 page says vacation 勤工助学 is generally no more than 16 hours a week and 80 a month, and only for students the measures cover. A full-time July is outside that sentence.

Is Peking University’s summer lab an internship with a company?

The program list says science and engineering research with professors, no courses, no credits, and fees exempted. It names no employer. Do not add one.

Which visa fits a summer?

The Sweden note splits study at 180 days: X2 at or under that line, X1 above it. Work is Z. A visit or study tour is F. A summer can be any of those depending on what you will actually do. The embassy decides.

Can I arrive in June and start off-campus work-study?

The off-campus conditions include more than one continuous year already at the current Chinese school. A first arrival in June does not meet that line. A tourist entry is not a study residence document.

Did the global-health page offer me a project?

The 2025/08/14 note says the questionnaire collects information and the institute will contact you if a project fits. That is not a seat. Mail on the page is ghd@pku.edu.cn.

What date can I circle for July?

None on the cited sources. The senior visiting window is 1–31 March for a fall start. The Law School’s visiting months are March–June or September–December. No placement or host availability is confirmed here; contact the institution before making travel arrangements.

Are summer lab fees really waived?

The visiting-student list says application and tuition fees will be exempted, and that courses and credits are not part of the lab. That waiver is 北京大学’s sentence, not a DragonTrail discount.

What should I ask before I book flights for summer?

Ask whether the weeks are teaching practice, work-study, or work, who supervises you, and which visa the host’s paper supports. If the host cannot answer, there is no confirmed summer.
