Community and Service Learning
Community and service learning in China is either voluntary public-benefit activity or social practice inside a school’s plan. It is not a job, and DragonTrail does not place you with a community.

No placement or host availability is confirmed here; contact the institution before making travel arrangements. Article 26 says international students may voluntarily join public-benefit activities. Article 29 says the school does not provide a place for religious activity and forbids proselytizing on campus. Those limits are part of the plan, not a footnote.

Voluntary Does Not Mean Unstructured
Article 26 says a higher-education school encourages healthy cultural and sports activities and that international students may voluntarily join public-benefit activities and celebrations of major Chinese festivals. Voluntary is the student’s choice. It is not a license for an outside group to run a program on campus without the school. Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution. A service week with no school letter is not Article 26.
Social Practice Sits in the Teaching Plan
Article 20’s 社会实践 is organized by the school according to the teaching plan, and the place must follow national rules. Service learning that a professor wants to grade has to be that plan, not a weekend project. The 2021 measures exclude this kind of practice from 勤工助学. Do not call a service day “work-study” in order to borrow the hour cap, and do not call work-study “service” in order to avoid the cap.
It Is Not Employment
Article 30 still forbids employment and business. A community role that looks like a job, with a shift rota and a manager, may be employment even if the organization says it is service. Unpaid does not settle the question. If the school is not organizing it as practice or as capped work-study, you do not have a permission we can point to. DragonTrail will not re-label a job as service.
Religion on Campus Is Tightly Limited
Article 29 says the school respects customs and religious belief but does not provide a place of religious activity. Proselytizing and religious gatherings on campus are forbidden. A service trip whose purpose is religious teaching does not fit that article. We will not help design one. Public-benefit work that a school has actually approved is a different thing, and it still needs the school’s writing.
Minors and Groups Need the Article 38 Papers
A service group of students under 18, if a school is accepting them as a short-term 团组, needs the agreement with the sending unit and, for primary and secondary schools, an accompanying guardian. Parents who do not live in China must formally entrust a guardian for a student under 18. A service project does not cancel those sentences. No such group was confirmed on this page.
No Community Name Means No Placement
There is no neighborhood, hospital volunteer desk, or rural school on this page. There is no hour log you can attach to an application. An F visa for a study tour, if that is what the consulate accepts, still needs an invitation that states the places and the source of funds. We cannot write it. Ask the Chinese school, in writing, what the service is, where it happens, who supervises it, and which rule allows the place.

FAQ
Can DragonTrail place me with a community?
No. No placement or host availability is confirmed here; contact the institution before making travel arrangements. There is no neighborhood, clinic, or rural school on this page, and no hour log.
Is service learning the same as work-study?
No. Teaching practice and social practice under the teaching plan are excluded from 勤工助学. Article 26’s voluntary public-benefit activities are a third description. Do not swap the labels.
Can unpaid service still be illegal work?
It can be the wrong permission. Article 30 forbids employment and business during study. A rota and a manager may be a job even if no one is paid. The school has to say which rule applies.
Are religious service trips allowed on campus?
Article 29 says the school does not provide a place for religious activity and forbids proselytizing and religious gatherings on campus. We will not plan a trip whose purpose is religious teaching.
What about a group of teenagers?
Article 38 requires an agreement with the sending unit before a school accepts a short-term group. Primary and secondary groups need an accompanying guardian. Students under 18 whose parents are not in China need a formally entrusted guardian.
Which visa fits a service trip?
If it is a study tour, the Sweden note describes F and an invitation that names places and funds. If it is enrolled study, X1 or X2. The embassy decides. We cannot write the invitation.
Will I get a certificate?
Only if the school says so under its own rules. Article 21 is about the school’s academic certificates. DragonTrail does not issue a service certificate.
What should be in the school’s letter?
The place, the dates, the supervisor, whether the hours are voluntary or in the teaching plan, and the rule that allows the place. Without that letter the service is unconfirmed.
