Graduate Internships
Graduate internships in China are easy to over-claim. A new master’s student has not met the one-year line for off-campus work-study, and 北京大学’s research scholar page asks for a doctorate or an associate professor title, not a fresh graduate looking for a first job.

No placement or host availability is confirmed here; contact the institution before making travel arrangements. 研究学者 is a non-degree category in Article 9 of the 教育部 order, which is not the same phrase as a paid graduate scheme at a company. The research scholar fee on the 北京大学 page stamped 2023-02-01 is 3,320 RMB a month. That is a research fee, not a salary.

A New Master’s Year Is Not Enough
Off-campus 勤工助学 requires more than one continuous year already at the current school, including as a 研究生. The first two semesters of a master’s degree do not satisfy that line. Term-time hours, if the measures apply at all, stay at generally 8 a week and 40 a month. A graduate scheme that expects 40 hours in an office is not that cap. Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution.
Research Scholar Is a Senior Desk
北京大学’s research scholar page, stamped 2023-02-01, asks for non-Chinese citizens under 55 who have a doctoral degree or the title of associate professor or higher. It advises you to find a supervisor first. Admission is decided by the college. The application can be filed in spring or fall except on legal holidays, at least three months before enrollment, and a letter of admission normally takes four to eight weeks. That is not a graduate internship pipeline.
Senior Visiting Asks for a Master’s Already
The senior visiting page asks for a master’s degree or above and age under 50. Current master’s students are not who that sentence describes. The usual duration is one year. The fee printed is 400 RMB to apply, then 30,000 RMB a year in humanities or 34,000 RMB in science. A proposal of at least 1,000 characters is required. Two paper copies of the file are required, and materials are not returned.
Article 9 Names the Student, Not the Job
Article 9 lists degree students as 专科生, 本科生, 硕士研究生, and 博士研究生, and non-degree students as 预科生, 进修生, and 研究学者. Those are enrollment categories. They do not create a right to a company desk. Article 46 says research institutes approved to train graduate students follow the same order. Confirm the applicable local requirements with the receiving institution.
Pay on the Research Page Is a Fee You Pay
The research scholar page prints a research fee of 3,320 RMB a month, plus a non-refundable application fee of RMB 400. You pay the university. The page does not print a stipend the university pays you. Do not describe 3,320 RMB as wages. The page time is 2023-02-01, read again on 29 October 2026, so it is not a fresh invoice. Insurance is required for the whole planned stay or the university will not register you.
A Job After Graduation Is Z, If It Is Work
Once the study category ends, a job is not covered by Article 30’s allowance for 勤工助学. The Sweden note’s Z category asks for a Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit. No graduate scheme with that authorization is confirmed here. A promise of “return on a work visa” is not confirmed by the cited sources. Ask the employer for the notification, the supervisor, and the dates. If they cannot produce them, you do not have a graduate internship.

Can a new master’s student take an off-campus internship?
Not under the off-campus work-study rule cited here. That rule asks for more than one continuous year already at the current Chinese school. A student in the first year has not met it.
Is a research scholar post a graduate internship?
The 北京大学 page asks for a doctorate or an associate professor title, age under 55, and a supervisor found in advance. That is a senior research stay, not a first job for a new graduate.
Is 3,320 RMB a month a stipend?
No. The page calls it a research fee, next to a non-refundable application fee of RMB 400. You pay it. The page time is 2023-02-01. It is not wages.
What is a 研究学者 in the 2017 order?
Article 9 lists 研究学者 as a non-degree enrollment category, beside 预科生 and 进修生. It is not a company title and not a work permit.

What should a graduate ask a host?
Ask whether the desk is a teaching plan, work-study, a research-scholar admission, or a job. Ask who supervises it and who pays whom. A host that cannot answer does not have a place for you.
