Study Programs for Families
Study programs for families in China do not enroll a household as one student. Each person who studies needs a school’s decision, and a child under 18 can trigger Article 38. A family visit visa is a different paper. DragonTrail does not book family study packages.
Information checked 29 October 2026 (Asia/Shanghai).
Opened: Article 38, the Sweden embassy note on S1, S2, and Q1 dated 2026/10/12, and the 180-day study split. Not opened: any family package price, any school that admits parents and children on one form, and any DragonTrail family intake.
At a Glance
| Who This Is For | A household that needs to separate the student from the relatives traveling with them. |
|---|---|
| Who Should Look Elsewhere | A single adult applicant. Use the audience route that matches that adult. A family label adds paperwork only when relatives are actually coming. |
| Clock | The student’s 180-day split and a relative’s S visa are different clocks. No family intake date was printed. |
| Money | No household package price. A school fee follows the student, not a headcount this page invented. |
| Who Decides | The school admits the student. The embassy decides the relative’s visa. DragonTrail does not combine them into one booking. |
| Papers | Admission paper, plus kinship or guardian papers when a child or a visiting relative is involved. |
| Easy to Mix Up | S1 is not X1. Foster-care papers are not a study admission. One hotel room is not one enrollment. |
| Worked Example | A parent on a three-week visit while a 20-year-old studies for a year needs two files. The parent’s visit does not enroll the parent. |
| What We Do Not Do | DragonTrail does not sell a family study package or name a school that accepts a household on one form. |
Who This Route Fits
Study Programs for Families is for a household trying to see who, if anyone, is the student, and who is traveling alongside. A parent visiting is not automatically enrolled. A child studying is not automatically covered by a parent’s visa. DragonTrail does not enroll this reader and does not set an age or a start date.
Read alongside that fit, Study Programs for Families still has to obey the office that printed the limit below. The Sweden embassy note describes an S1 visa for a spouse, parent, child under 18, or parent-in-law visiting a foreigner who works or studies in China for more than 180 days, and an S2 visa for a shorter family visit. Q1 foster-care papers are a different request. A family traveling together is not one school enrollment. DragonTrail does not issue those papers.
- Name the student first. Then name who is only visiting.
- A household is not a category in the order.
What the Printed Rules Say
The rule that actually constrains Study Programs for Families is narrower than a brochure. Article 38’s guardian line applies to the student who is under 18, not to every relative on the trip. The Sweden note’s S1 category mentions a child under 18 visiting a foreigner who already works or studies in China, for more than 180 days. That is a visit to a person, not an admission. Q1 foster papers are a further, separate request. A line from a different office is not copied onto this reader.
Where Study Programs for Families cites a number, the number stops at the page it came from. Article 38 says that if a student is under 18 and the parents do not live in China, the parents must formally entrust a foreigner or a Chinese citizen who does live in China as guardian and must provide the proof. A short-term group needs an agreement with the foreign sending unit. For a primary or secondary school, that unit must finish the minor’s exit paperwork under its own law and must send a person who acts as guardian during the study. DragonTrail does not sign that agreement.
- Article 38 follows the child, not every adult in the party.
- S1 is a visit to someone already in China, not a class list.
Time and the Visa Split
The clock for Study Programs for Families is the stay length and the school’s own window, not a season label. If one person studies for more than 180 days, that person’s file leans toward X1 and a residence permit within 30 days. A relative’s S visa can have its own length. The two clocks are not the same document. No family start month was printed. A date that has already passed stays passed.
Timing on Study Programs for Families does not create an intake DragonTrail can open. Article 45 of 教育部、外交部、公安部令第42号 counts short study as no more than 180 days, including the 180th day, and long study as more than 180 days. The Sweden embassy note dated 2026/10/12 uses the same split for an X2 visa and an X1 visa. An X1 holder applies for a residence permit within 30 days of entry. The consular officer decides the category. A season name does not.
- Do not put the relative on the student’s X1 by default.
- No family start month was printed.
Fees That Belong to a School
Money on Study Programs for Families is whatever the named school printed in RMB, if it printed anything. No family package price was opened. A school fee, if a school publishes one, is priced per the school’s RMB list for the person who is the student. Do not multiply a degree tuition by the size of the household unless that school said so, and none did on the pages read here. DragonTrail does not add a fee of its own.
Any yuan figure named for Study Programs for Families stays on the school’s list. Article 14 says a higher-education school publishes its fee items, standards, and refund rules, and prices them in RMB. Article 40 requires the insurance the state and the school demand. Someone who does not insure in time is not admitted. Someone already studying who does not insure is withdrawn or not registered. The order prints no premium. DragonTrail does not add a rate card.
- Do not multiply tuition by headcount.
- No package price was opened.
Papers and Who Decides
Papers for Study Programs for Families come from the school and, if a visa is needed, from the consulate. The student needs the admission paper. The visiting relative needs the invitation and kinship evidence the embassy note describes. Guardian entrustment is a third paper when Article 38 applies. DragonTrail prepares none of them. This site does not issue either document.
Documents discussed for Study Programs for Families are examples of what an office asked for, not a pack we issue. The Sweden embassy note dated 2026/10/12 describes an F visa for exchanges, visits, study tours, and other activities. The invitation should name the visitor, the purpose, the dates, the places, the relationship, the source of funds, and the inviter’s stamp and signature. F is not X1 or X2. The embassy decides. This page does not write the invitation.
- Kinship papers are the embassy’s list, not a DragonTrail form.
- Guardian entrustment is separate again.
What to Do Next
The useful next step after Study Programs for Families is a question to the school, then a look at the neighboring routes. Parents planning a child’s file should read Planning a Child’s Study Stay. Visit lengths sit on Study Dates and Duration. Neither button on this page reserves a seat.
Before acting on Study Programs for Families, keep the following boundary in view. Article 9 lists degree study as junior college, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral, and non-degree study as preparatory, advanced students, and research scholars. Article 12 says the school checks qualifications and financial support, may test the applicant, and decides admission. Someone who misses the school’s conditions is not admitted. DragonTrail is not that office.
- Use the parent route when the child is the student.
- This page does not reserve rooms or seats.

F is exchanges, visits, study tours, and other activities, and it needs an invitation with the visitor’s identity, dates, places, funds, and the inviter’s stamp and signature.
