Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Datong

Upon arrival at Datong, meet your friendly guide at the train station or airport baggage claim. Start your adventure in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle as you head toward the legendary Yungang Grottoes, one of China’s four largest grottoes.

  • Enjoy a round-trip electric car ride to save time and walking.
  • Marvel at Buddha carvings from three phases: grand statues, innovative designs, and intricately crafted private commissions.

Next, visit the serene Huayan Monastery, a unique Buddhist temple with upper and lower sections. Admire the magnificent wall paintings, Buddha statues representing past, present, and future, and learn why this temple faces east instead of the traditional south.

Conclude your day at the Nine Dragon Screen, the largest of its kind in China. Your guide will share the legends behind the stunning glazed dragons, an enduring symbol of Chinese culture.

The day ends with a transfer to your pre-booked hotel to relax and recharge.

Day 2 – Datong Exploration & Departure

After breakfast, your guide will escort you to the awe-inspiring Hanging Monastery, a miraculous wooden structure clinging to the cliffs for over 1,400 years. Discover the unique combination of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism that makes this monastery truly special.

Continue to the Wooden Pagoda of Ying County, the oldest wooden structure in China, built without nails in 1056. Marvel at its incredible construction, which has withstood centuries of earthquakes, and admire the 11-meter-tall Buddha statue on the ground floor.
